Hi! I bought a 2.5lb live rock last week, and it was COVERED with coraline algae. The color of the algae has now faded to a creamy white color. Does this mean there is something wrong with the quality of my water, or is this a common occurence?

What is your calcium, alk and Magnesium numbers? I know when I add LR to the tank it will turn white but come back with a vengence.

Calcium Level is 440ppm.

Lighting: 2 aqua rays 15W 18" lights, and 1 Marine Glo 15W 18" (actinic)

I do not have a test kit for mag, or alk. (I know I should, where would you sugguest I get them)

Yes, I think the one down the road will do that for me. How often should I test for alk, and mag. Would it be worth buying the test kits?

Yes always worth it. I use the API test kits. Get the liquid ones and not the test strips.

Okay. Thank You.
JW how long does it usually take for your LR to bounce back from the white color?
