The cycle has started

My cycle has started.

YEs, i put the shrimp in i figure about 6 weeks. til its done.
 
Cool! Got a test kit right? Forget about ph for now.
 
Yes sir, , i tested today ph. 8.2 amm 4, nitite 1, nitrate , 20 ppm sg 1.024
i teat every other day. Is that ok?
 
Looks good to me. :) Keep testing and keep patient (that's the part I had trouble with. lol)
 
You dont need to test for PH or salinity during the cycle. With all that cycling going on those numbers will bounce all around. All you need to test for during the cycle is ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. We will worry about the PH and others after the cycle is over and you do a 33% PWC.
 
I cranked up the heater to 82-85 and added an airstone, I don't know if it helped but made me think it did anyways...lol
 
Update time.

The cycle has finished after 20 days. WOOHOO!!! Unfortunately, my ballast went out on me so I having to get it fixed. No telling how long that will take. I can't get fish til I get some light. I am so frustrated. Any advice?
