Hi Guys, new to this forum. Am a fish lover & have a 125G discus community tank, 25G

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I guess you didn't hear. I ordered another one so I think that qualifies me as officially a discus enthusiast.

1 discus
1 dwarf gourami
1 german blue ram
1 pictus cat
2 golden wonder killifish
4 harlequin rasboras
5 corydoras
And a bunch of plants in a 20 long
Eheim 2213 and tom aquatics canister filters
Finnex planted plus
That does not make you a real enthusiast. That tank is already overstocked and you're about to make it worse.

Stop no and dont.. I'm not a mod but I'd like to kindly ask everyone to refrain from a bash session here. Roh. Is doing the best and I'd hate to see the focus pulled from their accomplishments.. thanks all..

surfnturf - I think ull do fine. 2 Discuss in a 20 G is right fitting. If u watch the pH, ensure weekly WC & keep tabs on your ammonia/nitrates u will do fine.

Dallascowboys, treemanone - sorry to come directly at you guys but this bashing you give out is uncalled for. I am not a GF expert but Discus I know well. If surfnturf handles the tank well, & the tank looks gorgeous....he should do well. Let's be more constructive rather than this "I know all..." Comments when very clearly you have more to know.

Surfnturf- will recommend that you try & get your hands in Mark Tan discus or speciality imports from Brazil....if you are planning only few. There are some very special ones out there.

Im not trying to say that I know it all but I know enough to say that 2 discus in a 20 gallon is not ideal. Your fish are very beautiful though rohit. :)

Thanks Dallascowboys. You may want to know that I have 20 in a 125 G & 26 if you count the angels. 10G to a discus is usually enough if the water is well maintained. The rest of his fishes hardly have a bioload. My fishes are growing 1" every 3 months so that I have to prepone my larger tank. But there are different theories out there & each are influenced by our experience. My tank uses two canisters- filtration enough for 350G & a nitrate reactor to keep water under control. I don't think everything is about just space.... It's a host of parameters that affect a fishes growth.

I get that parameters are also extremely important in Discus growth but there comes a time where space is necessary. It is more acceptable to heavily overstock a 125 because of the fact that there is more room for the fish to swim and parameters are more stable while in a 20 gallon two six inch fish WITH tank mates will feel very cramped. I understand the fish is still little but it seems that the op has no intentions of upgrading like you when the time comes. either way 20 gallons is too small for two discus with quite a few tank mates regardless of size. In 20 gallons you also can't stock the right number to encourage their complex social behavior. Once again this is not a rip on anyone just my advice and honest opinion. :thanks: :)

Thanks rohit. Any recommendations on ordering discus online? The lfs didn't get any discus in as promised so I may just order one depending on how this plays out.

Sorry Surfnturf, this depends on where you are. I will recommend speaking to people near where you are to see if there are other LFS or online shops who can cater to your need. I'm based in India & I buy from a guy who specialises in discus & other exotic fishes.
