Starting first SW aquarium

Also any ideas on how to get the skimmer to work, do I need an air pump? How is it attached?
I was thinking a small 'wave maker' and 2 five gallon buckets; 1 for making mix and the other for getting things acclimated. Will that do it?
Oh and making a drip tube?
