The gaskets all appear to be fine. No tears and they're in place where they should be. I tried putting petroleum jelly on the D-ring and filled and sealed the filter in my sink before moving it to the tank. But it's still sucking air.

Did I just get a bad filter? I don't know what else I can do here.

Can anyone recommend a different filter that would work for me?

I'm looking at the Ehiem Classic Canister filters and I think that might work but I can't tell from the pictures online whether I would have a similar problem with the outlet. Does anyone have experience with that model and know if it would work for me?

First, Have you contacted the manufactor to see if they have any advice for you on how to fix the problem that you have?

Just sent them a message. But I'm not expecting much beyond what has been suggested here.

That's to bad because my marineland HOB is a pretty good filter. I use it once a week as a water polisher and it does the job well.
