I'm using something similar - I think mine's 50mesh... You have to make a point of disturbing it (stirring) once in a while to prevent any anaerobic bacteria pockets from forming.

I was planning on gettin some Malaysian Trumpet Snails, however, I've heard some horror stories about their "explosive reproductive practices"..

If you don't overfeed, their numbers won't get too Malthusian.

Malthusian....had to look that one up....works though.

I guess I could keep them in check with a few Loaches.....however, I also wanted to get some shrimp, so they would probably go too!
