What is on my sand

Hi,

I have had an aquarium for a number of years but recently I have noticed the below. You can see from the red line I have drawn showing you the bit of sand I have cleared on the left and the problem area on the right.

If anyone knows what it is and how to get rid of it please let me know.

How often do you clean the substrate, do water changes? How often, how much?

Have you added a new piece of driftwood or anything else in the tank lately?

It looks like a fungal growth from what the pic looks like to me.

Do you happen to know you water parameters?
