Is it immoral for me to get another cleaner shrimp, if this one survives, to mate and provide live food for my tank inhabitants?

Not at all. what do you think fish/inverts eat in the ocean? or what is your fish food made out of. Also there is a chance you could get lucky and they do survive, a local reefer here just found a bunch of baby cleaners in there sump that were starting to get coloration already. they actually didnt find out until their child's friend was looking under the tank and said "hey you have babies!".

How would you tell their gender?

Pistol Pete is correct. They're the hermaphrodites that take turn with the sexes if I'm right. I bought one and it was dead the next morning so my LFS begrudgingly replaced it free of charge. Now the one in the tank is walking around all slow and is actually getting blown around by the powerheads...maybe it's asleep? My hermits are fine, no idea what could be up with the shrimp if this one dies as well.

They should hide when they are asleep it sounds like it is weak. Mine would only "hitch a ride" in the powerhead current. Sounds like something could wrong with you LFS supply of shrimp.

Must be. Last week, I got the last one they had, so I was hoping the new shipment would help. If it's dead in the morning all I know to do is call and ask if anyone else has had a problem with them. It's almost dragging it's body on the substrate instead of walking around like normal.

Anyone know if Petco treats their liverock with copper?

Here it is.

I wouldn't get anything from Petco if you can help it. They typically don't know much and aren't helpful. See if you can find a small local shop. Typically the owners are always there and are very helpful. I know a lot of people here hate chain pet store especially for this hobby.

If he is dragging his body his is ill and probably very frail. It looks like your cleaner might be dying as well.

So far the only thing I got at Petco was the aquarium and my starter live rocks, I had no idea there was a better quality out there. I'm now driving 45 mins to get to a locally owned store and that's where I got the shrimp and crabs.

I think the crab in front is just mad because i hit the glass with my phone. :p

The shrimp is as good as dead. He crawled to the back of the tank and flipped upside down and is unable to right himself again. What is going on.

Where did you get the shrimp from? How are your water parameters? How long has the tank been cycled, how big is the tank? And are you using RO/DI water or water conditioner?

Aquatic Critter in Nashville, TN.
Water is all in check by my measurements and theirs.
Tank has been cycled 2 weeks.
37 gallon.
water conditioner.

Edit:I put him in my measuring cup I use for this and offered him a piece of the frozen shrimp i feed my other fish, he grabbed it and started eating hard...then started jumping around...now he's just kinda lying there trying to keep himself upright.

Im thinking it might be a problem on their end, unless you are high in copper possibly. Is your salinity alright?

Edit: Actually I think it is a cause for concern that they are dropping so soon after you get them. I think it is something with your tank.
