Sand sustrate pics.

I use a Fluval prefilter sponge over my HOB filter intake. I have 2 sand tanks. No issues with my HOB or my canister. I turn off my filters when I do water changes or any tank maintenance.

I like black sand so I've used:
Flourite sand
Blasting sand (cheap)
Tahitian Moon Sand ( as a cap, very pretty)

My plants grow well in all 3, with root tabs

My sand DOES settle just fine.

Quickrete's Premium Playsand from Home Depot $3.50/50lb in my 10g when I was draining it:

PFS does come in different colors I have heard but I have only seen white. You can get it at some hardware stores.

if you have a swimming pool dealer around you the sand they use in there filters is really great for tanks. and it dose not get in your filter system like others. and its a lot cheaper . rinse it well and it will work fine

I got it from my LFS. I struggled to find one but they are available online. Mine is just a normal jewel one and cost me about £70. IMO they make the tank look more realistic than the posters.

Yeah I love them. All the ones I can find are too expensive. My wife would kill me. Maybe I will make my own
