Just wondering... What would be the minimum number of gallons PER fantail goldfish in a tank?

No i think its 20 then ten for each one after i like to understock id go with 4 or 5 i have a 75 with 7 and they are happy as can be

Okay. Any chance you could put a smaller goldfish in a 10 gallon?

Its not recommended it might be ok for a little bit but i think goldfish enjoy company and there is always a chance of stunting its growth which of course is not good for them

Ok. Thanks. Know of any goldfish that stay really small? I have a 30 gallon I might want to get a couple for If I can

The smallest are i believe lionheads, pearscales tend to stay small as well orandas and black moors tend to grow quite large so id stay away from them and of course Commons comets and shubunkins

Ok thanks. I'll keep them in mind :)

So you think if you had 60 gallons, you could only have three?

20 for the first and 10 for each thereafter. So 5 in a 60 gallon would be fine but you'd want to change the water pretty frequently. Maybe 25% every other day or 50% per week. I have 3 fancies in 55 gallons and keep a pristine tank on 50% per week.

I had a small oranda and added a small black moor in a 10 gallon and had it for months before getting my 55 gallon. They did fine but I did 100% water changes per week. That's not really very difficult with just 10 gallons though.

Orandas and moors do grow quite large but dont assume that lionheads or pearls will stay 'small'. They are less active than other goldies due to their body shape but all goldfish have the potential to grow big- these guys will make up for length with girth. My local AGA breeder has pearls that are the size of a big grapefruit minus the fins. There really isnt such a thing as a 'small' goldfish.

Ok. Thanks a lot :) I have a 20 or 30 gallon (I'm not 100% sure which one) tank that leaks. I'm going to try and reseal it, so if that works, I'd like to put a goldfish or two in it.

Post the tank measurements (LWH) and we can help you figure out the gallon capacity. :)

Thanks :) I can't do that now cuz it's outside in the shed... And I'm sick so I have to stay in bed. :( but the upside to that is I get to read around on here for like the whole day! lol

Hey, I was supposed to stay in bed, but I can't waste a chance to go to the local pet store can I? Im always well enough for that! lol off to the pet store!

Ok here is a picture of the tank (I think one of my younger siblings was using it for a toad which is why it's full of dirt :p) these are the measurements:
L - 24"
W - 12"
H - 16"

That's a 20 gallon high tank. One fish.
