Its a cardinal tetra but i think i may of found out what killed 3 of my 6 tetras an idiot some how and idk how sold me food for them that was a year out of date its the only logical reason i can see for them dieng because all my parameters are practically perfect i cant find anything noticably wrong with anything in the tank all my test have come back with great results so ive bought new food from and different lfs and hopefully if they continue to do good over the next week and a half ill add either 2 bolivian rams or some albino corys

Would love to know what i am doing wrong because it seems like even when i follow the guidelines on how to start a tank and follow them step by step the right way i can never do it right but random people can walk up in walmart and grab a goldfish and a bowl fill it with tap water and the thing lives for years and i cant even get one to live a week.

Hey man I know how ya feel I did like 5 months of reserch before getting y tank. I fishless cycle it and get fish and they die right away. Now 2 months later I only have 5 zebra danios. My buddy has a 10 gallon tank that he bought and got fish the next day. He has 3 guppies, 5 neon tetras, 1 x ray tetra, 4 albino Cory's; and they've all been alive for over a year no ponlema

Haha yeah speaking of which i have friend that has a horse feeding trough and they threw to goldfish in there with no filter or anything and those fish have lived for 2 years now

Well luckly i think i found the problem cause the 3 that are left seem to be doing good ( knock on wood) and i hope they stay that way ao i can get a few more to get the school # back up and finish adding my the rest of my fish

Well i think ive figured out whats wrong and corrected it and hopefully i can get 3 or 4 more this weekend and get my school up 6 or 7

One of my cardinal tetras i think is showing a sign of ich i saw what looked like a grain of salt coming off him , i havent seen any signs of flashing or and other signs that show there sick other then that one spot and if this does end up being ich how would i go about treating it with cory cats in the tank ?!?!?

Well i treated for ich i raised the temp to about 84 and used some ich treatment liquid i got from my lfs and all the spots went away im gonna keep the temp at 84 for about another week and then slowly start to to get it back down to about 78-79

Well alll fish that had ich it has gone away so today i went and got another cardinal tetra now my school is up to 5 i also added 2 bolivian rams and they are doing great and are swimming all around the tank and they are very peacful with the other fish in the tank.

You could add all your fish really. Cycling to a 4 ppm bioload is actually good enough even for an Mbuna tank (I.e slightly overpopulated) tank. Some fish do create heavier bioloads just keep that in mind. If the fish you will be adding are at all territorial, then you want to add all your fish at once to minimize aggression. As long as you have a good filter able to turn the volume of your tank over 6- 10 times per hour (flow rate), you do your weekly vacuuming and PWC to keep Nitrates down, never over feed, keep pH and temperature steady, and do weekly or biweekly filter media rinses in tank water (conditioned) you should not have to worry about mini cycles. Best of luck. Share some pics of your tank once you get your fish.

Well it took a while but here some pics of the stock

Anyone have expirence with khuli loaches? Thinking about getting some just would like to get some opinions on them

Sorry to barge in on this thread- I just searched khuli loaches to find some more information about them :) I got 3 of them for my 10g about a week ago and they are the most adorable, entertaining, and silly little fish I have ever had. They spaz out and race up and down and around the tank every night, but mostly hide during the day. They seem to be very social as well and will braid themselves and snuggle up to each other, I would love to get a few more of them if I had a bigger tank, I'd highly recommend them!

I've seen some people's videos on YouTube of there loaches and its making me want some really bad ... Of love to see pics of yours in your tank

Well, I have had them since I was a kid (which is a VERY long time) And they are a favorite for sure, they need a group to be happiest.

My favorites are the banded, like the ones above munching on the algae wafer! I also have had the black Kuhli.

They also love to eat tiny baby dwarf shrimp. I never saw it but the two tiny little baby Kuhlis I put in my shrimp tank to grow up before changing to their new tank didn't end up getting moved till they were near adults. My baby shrimp population, mysterious declined significantly, to a near screeching halt. When I moved the really healthy Kuhlis to their new tank, my shrimp population began to increase again. lol

Mine were in many different water conditions like very hard water to 6.2-6.4 pH sorta soft.

Big problem is them getting stuck in fake plastic/resin decorations with holes in them, so be careful, and also not remembering to check for them in decorations, and rocks/gravel and getting rinsed down the drain/garbage disposal, they are slippery and fast. Mine also like to eat Hikari sinking omnivore wafers with the orange-y goldish color banner on it. And blood worms.
