I love cichlids and plan on keeping /breeding different species. I want to know what your favorite species is and why. Include pictures if you can.

My favorite is a weird one and most likely won't be anyone elses but I think the Nimbochromis Livingstonii is so cool. I especially like the way it hunts by playing dead and waiting for an unsuspecting fish.

I like the venustus, and frontosa. Also OB Peacocks are on the top of my list as well.

A full grown frontosa is a sight to see. I'll share my favorite species. I really like the fish in the genus crenicichla. Here's a link to the google images page since there are so many species.

Definitely the frontosa! They have great personalities and are very observant! I can't even explain how awesome they are. You just gotta own one lol

Fronts are defiantly cool. Another favorite of mine is my hybrid mbuna. Such a character loves to act big and bad but never bullies anyone and is such a baby. The family pitbull of the tank.

The hybrid is beautiful. I have a new appreciation for the frontosa. I use to think it was a big aggressive cichlid but now i see it's a beautiful animal. I'd love to keep one someday.

Why thank you he's my accidental prize jewel lol. Only one left from a group of maybe 6

He's about 6-7 years now but my best guess were a bumblebee crossed with an ice blue. All the others were different from him. His sister was just brown but i lost her a year or so ago and the others before that.

They're really awesome, almost zen like. I love watching mine. And truthfully, they're not aggressive at all (at least mine aren't). I've added all sorts of fish to their tank and they've NEVER hurt any other fish.
I luvins my frontosas!!!

They normally range in price from $16 up. Burundi are cheaper than other breeds. I just started selling off my extra males.

Pricey around me, only one lfs sells them and at $40 for 1.5" if I had room I could find them from some breeders locally for way cheaper. That's the place to look. You would be surprised about what around you when you really start looking

That sounds reasonable. I like the neon frontosa. African cichlids are interesting to study and observe from an evolutionary point of view.
