Hello
My problem is as follows: I set up a 40 gallon tank for a map turtle. I added a pleco to the tank during the end of the cycle, and the pleco has ich. So I have removed the pleco to a 10g QT tank and treated with API super ich treatment. I tried to raise temp in 40, heater blew. Sitting at 80. My question is, can I treat the turtle-tank-to be with the super ich treatment and then do large water changes before I get the turtle or will the meds be in the tank somehow and harm the turtle? I can't salt because the tank is planted. Will the ick go away on it's own without a host? How long before I seem it safe to add the turtle? Thanks!

The ich will die out without a host as the cycle cannot be completed. Any lift in temperature you can do will speed the ich cycle up.

Off memory 10 days of an empty tank will do it at that temp but see if you can find site that had ich cycle days by temperature.

Lol if you do, can you post as I lost mine.

Hi!
Make some research about ICK!
Ick will be alive in the tank for at least 1-2 weeks EVEN WITHOUT A HOST!
Salt will be fine with your plants, just follow dosage instructions.
Heat that water up lady!
85 degrees and leave it like that for 10-15 days, This way you accelerate the life process of ick and it will die quickly.

Even if you put the plecos on quarantine, your other tank is still on danger. You should treat both of them ASAP.

Hi, out of interest did you see a max salt dosage for plants?

I don't believe that turtles can get ich so you just have to leave the tank without fish for a couple of weeks and the ich will die off because there's no fish host.

Salt won't kill ick/ich/whitespot
Salt will only make the fish feel better with the ick. If you follow dosage instructions which are 1 tbsp for every 5 gallons, your plants will be fine.
It is not necessary to use salt when treating ick. The most efficient method is rising temperature, I put blankets around my tank and leave the light on to reach 90 degrees. In just a couple days all my ick was gone, I keep temperature high for at least another week to make sure that the ick particles are completely gone.
