I am a newbie of around 6 months. I have replied to several questions asked. I normally make sure I say I'm new and for how long, I give my thought or experience and close by asking the folks who've been in the hobby for a while to please chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
This is not a question of right or wrong, everyone's opinion matters. I'd like to see 100's of responses and hope other newbies read what you established hobbiests think.

I'll be the first to say, if you know what you're talking about, it's fine. If you're dispelling bogus opinions that goes against the grain of history in the hobby, then you should keep your mouth shut. Not trying to be rude, just trying to answer without beating around the bush. I know you'll understand amy ?.

Newbies need to participate in threads! That's one of the best ways of learning imho. You could read something a dozen times but until you step in and talk it over with others you won't get a really good understanding of it.

Of course they should. Many non-experts still have useful information to add to a conversation. It also gives them the opportunity to ask and learn more.

I'm a newbie and mostly ask questions but I have chipped in towards offering advice or a comment if I know the answer or ive questioned somethings for clarity if it's against other people's knowledge/advice. I think it's a good way of us newbies to learn more:sly:

I think everyone should participate, no matter how new you are in the hobby. Some information gets outdated, and some new information comes to the table. The standard method used by most may not always be the best, or the only method.

Treeman of course I do! I appreciate the honesty. This is why I start with I'm new, because I'm only saying what I learned from my personal experience.

Everyone else, thank you I also agree with this. I have asked lots n lots of questions, follow many threads to learn ( wigglers for example, answered every question I've had about my angel fish).
I don't try to make things long by adding I'm new and others chime in. But I know some will follow the answer they want instead of what's accurate. This way I give my experience, what I learned and got out of the lesson. Unfortunately due to horrible advice, I've killed many fish in my short time. I finally can wake up and not have the net in hand scooping deadies.

Newbie questions and comments drive forums. It is their questions and comments that inspire and fuel the discussions we have.

Thank you for the input. I agree most of the time. There are times you get a newbie who: 1. Wants the answers but do no research, 2. Thinks they know everything and are way off 3. Then there's ones who want and have drive to learn.
Everyone do you feel if we are giving advice that we should say newbie, or just reply as normal.

I feel newbies should comment. What I don't agree with is a comment or even advice outside of personal experience or something that has worked for you for just a few days vs long term. So anyone sharing their success and or failures is always helpful.

#1 and #3 are perfectly fine in my book. #2 has to learn things the hard way and that's just the way it is.

Good Information is good information - doesn't matter who says it. The only thing that newbies must keep in mind, IMO, is that what they've researched isn't always true in practice. There are things you can learn from reading and there are things you can only learn through experience. Information is great and all, but it can also be dangerous without perspective. Knowledge = information + experience.

Do you know how I learned so much so fast about this hobby/lifestyle? Look at my post count? You'd think I was an expert huh?? Nope.. still a noob.. about 1000 of those posts were corrected by other, more knowledgeable, members. Post away, if you're really not sure? Pm another member to hop in. Most of the time google will solve any problem. Don't be afraid to tell someone to google something, if I'm bored at work I'll google posts for people,.I don't mind doing a little research for someone to lazy to do it themselves:) kidding... or am i??

Very well said, agree you can research and get opposite answers. Experience best lessons learned, in my life anyway.

I think we should ask lots of questions, sometimes I feel out of line commenting on another persons question.
Ha yes some of YOU, have taken a lot of your personal time to help me. It's highly appreciated.
I love the plant package?? I don't know the names of them, I especially like the wavy/twisted one. I did add pics in my profile for you to see. ??
