My Coral Banded Shrimp has really grown since I got him a few months ago. I mean his antenna span was huge! Maybe 6-7 inches. But as of this weekend he looks like someone gave him a haircut! LOL I hope he's ok. You think maybe he molted and the whole antenna didn't make it over??? My other theory is some crab got ahold of him sometime or another. The attached pic is before his haircut and he wasn't as big yet.

I was hoping someone else would be able to give you a difinitive answer so I held off with this post for a few days.

My guess and that is allit is. Is that when it last molted the feelers did not grow out as far.

I want to get one of these shrimp for my 80 gal. But I have to weigh the options as I also woud like to have cleaners and maybe some other small shrmp and I would not want them to become food for the CBS.

  • CBS= Coral Banded shrimp vs CBS the tv network.

  • Editoral note: CBS the tv network (aka The network for the older generation)

Shortened antenna and/or missing claws is a symptom of an Iodine overdose. It might be something else like a nutrition problem or a crab with a tase for antenna but Iodine can cause a premature molt.

Thanks for your thoughts. I did a big water change and also watched the CBS a lot. My guess is it could have been the molt or that strawbeery crab I have. I am suspecting him of murder lately. He's going when we move. Blue Abyss told me about what her strawberry crab did to her corals. Well the CBS has his antenna back and had lost a claw and it's back now too. Guess I was all worried for nothing. Things are good now.

Thanks,
Gina

VA, we have a cbs and a skunk cleaner, I don't think they even know the other one is there. lol. I guess they have no interest in each other. the skunk cleaner runs around and cleans fish or sits on a rock and sways back and forth all day and the cb either stays behind the rocks, of when he comes out there, and stands (like the picture Gina posted) around and "yells at the fish" as they swim by... lol or at least that's what it looks like. lol. I think if you have a big enough tank they supposedly won't bother each other.
