I went to my local Walmart and got a grow light from the light bulb section. It is florecent. Says it only uses 17watts. I was wondering if that would help my aquarium plants grow better? It's made for indoor gardens so why wouldn't it? Will it harm my fish?ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1431214457.261800.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1431214471.146823.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1431214487.746451.jpg

The intensity is quite a bit more important for aquarium plants than having the perfect spectrum. Offhandedly, I would say it's doubtful that light fixture would help with plant growth.

What plants do you have and what size tank is it?

I have naja grass, moss ball, dwarf sagittaria, and an unknown plant. It's a 55 gal

I'd say don't because aquatic plants and house plants are very different

I got it for $60. Came with 2 filters, 2 bubblers, rocks, under gravel filter, net, and 4 giant goldfish that went into a yard pond lol heck of a steal!

5000k bulb is pretty good. Personally i would look for a 7800k or 10000k bulb. That will really get those plants growing.

I think a planted tank with black sand/Eco complete

Low light plants
Vallisneria
Hornwort
Anubias
Java Fern
Java moss
Wisteria
And more...

With a big piece of driftwood would look fantastic!
