How long have they been in there? They could still be adjusting, but they also look like they're nutrient deficient. Do you use root tabs?

No root tabs :/ and I've had them close to a month. I almost bought some but I was reading where dirt was better.... so I just needed someone to look at them

But I have been using liquid co2

I thought just adjusting but one has lost all its leaves and now it's going slowly down the stem

First picture, plant on right. It used to be full of leaves

What is your lighting? Keep in mind that co2 has to work with nutrients and lighting and an imbalance in one of these can cause plants to die. Root tabs are a must for heavy root feeders and you would probably benefit from liquid ferts as well.

Just a regular aquarium bulb. That's why I have it by a window. Good to know about the co2.... I'll pick up root tabs and try that next

I also see what looks to be a "lucky bamboo" on the left in the first pic. When fully submerged like in an aquarium, they will die (even though they are sold as aquarium plants :nono: False advertising). Keep an eye on it and make sure when you notice it start dying to pull it out so it doesn't mess up your water quality.

I would also look into getting better lighting. The plants need nutrients, co2 and lighting to be healthy...Increasing the ferts without upping the quantity and quality of light won't do much to help the plants. If you have a fluorescent lighting fixture, you could simply upgrade the tube to one designed for plants and watch your plants take off!

Hope this info helps!!

Well I'm just now reading about the light thing lol. I already went to petco. Honestly I don't have tons of money to try everything. I'm sunk alot into them Already.... anyway, later after posting, my platy was laying on bottom and had an eyeball poked out. So I decided I was taking everything out and redoing it the right way. I made alot of mistakes setting it up. I didn't want to spend a lot on fertilizer cause I made that mistake during the cycle phase. Bought alot of junk basically. So I'm dividing my 55 gallon til this one is right. I bought some dirt that has all the nutrients in it. Hopefully this will save them.

What type of bulb is it? Is it a screw in or tube? And what size is the tank?

The tank is 38 gallon. It had a 24 inch ballast on it but it broke. I had an old 18 inch I'm using til I get a new ballast. I think the bulb said 4200k??? I'll check.

I was hoping being by the window would give it so natural sunlight.

I would say it is a lack of lighting. What are the dimensions? I'd assume it's too tall of a tank for a 18" or even a 24" t8 bulb. It's hard to tell how much lighting your tank gets from the sun, usually only enough to grow algae lol.

It's the sunniest room in the house. That's why I put it there. Plus I have blinds that can darken the whole room. My 55 is by a window, but it's a window under the porch. Hardly any sunlight plus I keep the blinds closed. Having those 2 by a window really helps with water chnages. My little breeder tank is by my bed, maybe a 16 gallon. It get no sun light but I've had an algae blow in it before. . What's bad is when you have a problem with all 3 tanks lol. Luckily I'm home all day to fix it.
