Obviously a more compact version but I don't want the hollow. I'd like to do a cave. Will be after Xmas though now. Too much to do and I have to find a piece of wood that contorts the way this one does. From high to low.

Did a 50% water change today. Scraped some algae off the glass, removed an algae infested Crinum bulb plant and chucked it. I felt bad because it's roots were about 6 inches long and the thickness of a shoe lace. I'd never tried them before so hey ho.
Took out the experimental tub and relocated the heater away from my precious ludwigia leaves. They are orange. Not green or red but a really nice orange that this phone cannot do justice.
I plucked out some algae that I can only describe as a cross between BBA and staghorn. There wasn't much and it was rooted to one grain of eco complete.
Today I bought some rock. Well fossilised wood actually. The burnt red stuff. I couldn't get the piece I had in mind but sure I can make something interesting with what I have bought.
I also ordered some square meter drainage cells.
I can cut them with a hack saw and stack rocks on them for height. The substrate should fall between the holes to sure everything up.
I'm also going to purchase some of this.

This will help divide and support substrates.
I may have to purchase another bag of eco complete too.
This will all be in between Xmas and new year. I'm travelling to Iceland on the 22nd and will be spending Xmas over there so will not have my phone to post after tomorrow.
I've confirmed that my light can grow a nice carpet. It's gonna be a pain taking it all up after everything has settled but my next scape I am going to do properly.

Ooh the big rescape! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. By the looks of all the gear your buying you will have some pretty serious rises. I like that idea, flats boring!
Gee - the fossilised wood sounds good. Looking forward to seeing pics of that.

Well I'm back from my trip. 5 days without seeing my tank and things have changed some.
I dosed ferts before I went and everything else was left as is.
Firstly the ludwigia is close to the top of the tank. I noticed one or two of the leaves have been dropped from a couple of the stems and the older growth has much more green spot algae. Otherwise the plant looks nice.
The Pogostemon erectus lower needles are algae covered once more. The algae had disappeared before I went away.
The S.repens appear the most afflicted with algae. The very lower leaves were damaged before I left from whatever it was the induced chlorosis. Now they look like this.
Interestingly the Monte Carlo has excellent new growth but the older has the same algae as the S.repens in parts.
Lastly the drop checker got taken over too lol.
So the question is. What has caused this. Well the plants are pearling already in to the photoperiod and the drop checker is still green. Plant mass has increased though so more co2 would be required.
Only other thing is no nutrients have been going in possibly creating deficiencies. I haven't tested yet but just for kicks I'm gonna check phosphates and nitrates using the API test kit.

My repens looked exactly the same as yours after I finished my detox. I have to pull them all out and seperate the stems and cut off all the leaves. They collected a huge amount of BBA. Same as the AR mini. Growth is strong again now but they were struggling.
How much ferts are u dosing now? I still feel something isn't working in my tank. Almost 100% certain it's a lack of co2

I WAS dosing half EI before I went. I haven't put anything in since. Even today. I'm not that fussed as I'll be ripping it all out soon anyway. Gulp!
That is very interesting RE the repens. So might we be saying that this is a deficiency related algae? My Monte Carlo was brown before I introduced macros.

The algae on the drop checker is definitely. Or atleast the deficiency gives it an easy foot hold. I have the brown hairs all through some of my stem plants before I started dosing micro's again. I think the BBA just gets a good grip on the plant as the tissue of the leaves break down rather than being caused by lack of nutrients.
Did u get holds/tares in your leaves? Also black veins?

Thanks. I'm taking the tree out I think. Before I went to Iceland I wanted to do something heavily rock related.
After walking through some of the fissures there I new I definitely wanted to do a parting of rock work or some kind of valley.
I got this off the tinterweb before I left. I'm going to need some more rock and some more substrate.
