Sumps scare me! lol

Selected a few items for purchase for the new tank. Heading to the lfs tomorrow to check on a few types of sand. I am having a hard time making up my mind, with wanting it to be really cool and also affordable. There are different kinds of substrates with tiny shells or medium shells and little different colors, tan, white, pink, black and white or mostly black with a little white coral pieces, also the Garnet sand or it maybe mixed with some coral substrate. So many choices.

Haven't heard back if I am still for sure getting the Clown Loaches or not, I guess tomorrow night.

Bought a new light and a new heater for the 5 gallon.
Considering purchasing a large piece of driftwood for the 125. I got several small pieces.

Also considering doing a small blackwater tank. I've never have one and I think it might be cool. I have a 40B, a 29, a 15 and another 5 gallon that I could set back up for this and an trying to decide on what to keep in it.
Any suggestions for a good blackwater fish?

D-Fish if you have or can maintain a lower pH like 6-6.5ish, at least less than 7,
Sundadanio axelrodi. Aka Axelrod Rasbora, Neon Blue (or red or green) Rasbora.

Fresh2o has an active BW build
http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f70/fresh2o-s-29g-blackwater-tank-363954.html

Found a sick fish, trying to get it out of the tank.

Also wondering which type fish is the bad "boy" of the tank. Had a fish with a missing eye and a couple with bites out of the tails. Swordtail males were sparing and that might have been the situation there, but who is nipping Neon tails???

Been busy, haven't seen any actual nipping, but some chasing, like the Odessa Barb pair just seem to chase each other. Planning a pwc on the 72G today or in the morning. Fill evap.

Getting a bunch of plants together to go to a new home.

Maybe get the old 12G Edge rinsed out again and put together for the PRL temp tank would be better than the plastic bin the are still in :/ didn't get that done last week.

Scored big today. A neighbor, moving out, couldn't take her fish tanks. She asked me to salvage the equipment and decor. I ended up with 2-Magna-float algae scrapers; 2-quality heaters, 1-AC 30,
1-Air pump, 30 lbs of gravel, 4-Texas Holey Rocks, two of which, are much too large and will be added to the rock garden, Several colorful river rocks and 3 good sized pieces of DW, 2- Malaysian
1-Manzanita. Her actual tanks and other pumps were in bad shape and not worth salvaging.
I pretty much just dumped the stuff in my 65 gal. "Refugee tank" located in a back bedroom.
Sorry for the lousy pic. Bright room, cheap cell phone. The black blob behind the Red Texas is most of the Malaysian DW.

Awesome!

-------------------
I am waiting on some aquascaping equipment that I ordered so that I can do a little better job trimming and planting some of the trimmings. Your fingers can only do so much LOL.

Battling algae pretty bad in one of my 5 gallon tanks. I think the photo. Is a little too long. because of my work schedule and the lights being manually-operated they are on roughly 10 hours a day sometimes 12.

the 38 bowfront has absolutely no algae though even though I leave the lights on roughly 14 hours a day. I don't know whether to contributions that to the types of plants in the tank or the fact that I have to bristlenose pleco and a nerite snail in there.

Also been Gathering up some rocks around the property to start treating for my 125 build. Going to be using a decent amount of white quartz since it is so readily available on my property.
Thought about using some locally-sourced wood also but that scares me a little lol

D Fish

I like quartz rocks too and have a lot of them in my tanks. If you come up short finding good rocks in your yard, don't forget to check out your local rock yard or landscape company. I found some real show rocks that way, spending only 12 cents to 25 cents per pound.
I hand picked all of the pictured Texas Holey Rock from a local rock yard. I really like the hockey mask and skull looking rocks. The rounded multi-colored rocks are quartz Geodes (crystal side down). Happy hunting. (y)

- Hate when I get almost done typing a thread post and somehow manage to hit a button and delete the whole thing :/ And y'all know how long my posts are...

V227 - Nice when you get something you can actually use for free!

D-Fish - try using the planting tweezer/tongs at/inserting to the substrate at a 45 degree angle when you plant the stems. The substrate falls into the space helping hold it in better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got plants bagged up last night, pwc on 2 nanos.
Pond plants - numerous bags bagged up in the morning and emptied the the pond. Got all the fish including fry bagged up. There were many less fish than I thought so not sure why - maybe a bird got some? No dead bodies...
Anyway, also saved a bunch of Ramshorn snails, mostly Red RH went into the nano tanks. Also some of the black. Then the pond snails went into the tanks with the Clown Loaches.
A hobbyist getting ready to move out of state did indeed bring me the 3 little Clown Loaches as indicated. They are adorable!!! Also a Synodontis Petricola, known as the cuckoo catfish, or the pygmy leopard catfish.
Added about 8 DW pieces from the pond and the one which came with the Clown Loaches. And two fat Kuhlis!!! Fed them some snails too.
The Angelfish in the 46G was not pleased to be having the Clown Loaches as new residents. Might be sending the Angelfish to the lfs. Placed all the DW best as possible to add additional cover.
Tried catching the beatup ill looking 2 Neons and one iffy one, caught a bunch of Neons but not the 2 worse looking ones. Will likely try tomorrow again. Stressed out the tank for nothing.
[Wow, weird post situation eh? like I said long day - post edited]
Thanks. I have a set coming. I just bought one of the I think it was $12 stainless sets on Amazon. It come with the tweezers, scissors, a little spade, and something else I think. This is the first time I have really branched out from anything other than swords and anubias. So it's quite a lot to learn at one time lol
Just hope I don't end up killing everything somehow.
--------
I am thinking about breeding two of my bettas. My female is absolutely full of eggs. I've been watching lots of videos for about the past month and although I know I am probably in over my head I think I am going to attempt it.
If I am successful I will probably set up my 40-gallon breeder as a grow out tank.
I want to try it at least once that way if nothing else I can say I have tried.
I have set the female in a cup inside the males tank. I will keep her there for a couple of days (maybe a week) and let them get good and acquainted with each other. Then when it is time to let her out it will be a game of nerves and watching closely.
Painted the back on my 125 today.
You can't hardly see it because of all of the stuff I have in it at the moment lol
But I think it turned out okay. 0826182157a.jpg
Nice D-Fish! Progress!
My progress for the day is moving day for the PRL Shrimp.
Reset up the old 12G Edge just so I could get the shrimp where I can see them.
Put the new substrate in after 2+ weeks with no ammonia leaching from it in the bucket.
Added back the majority of things in the tank previously. It is a temporary set up probably, though I know that sometimes turns long term. We shall see, it is fine either way.
Cleaned up and gathered what I needed.
It is sitting in a temporary location too, as was one issue needing to move 5 things to set it up, but snags along the prevented a seamless transition, so it will be in front of another tank, SW nano which needs to move to the big tank someday and will slide right over onto it's stand when it is emptied. So the plan goes, lol.
There were only about 15 surviving shrimp which is even more disappointing than the earlier 27. Since they were housed in an opaque tub/tote filled with plants, I couldn't see much.
Got them acclimated and they are in, hoping they stay well.
I got my bucephalandra today and am quite happy with it. I hope it works itself around the rocks I tied it to. It's going to look great!
PRL shrimp tank looks pretty and clear. I took a few pics and will post in the next few days.
The survivors are not quite the quality of the ones overall that I had and there only seemed to be one really nice looking one but hardly a SS and not a SSS. Very happy to see them in a tank, but saddened further that no really gorgeous ones survived. On a more pleasant note, there are 2 berried females, and maybe a younger third one, smallish shrimp so likely a first batch. Maybe they will have some pretty fry.
Might just order some. Will start scouting for them. It usually takes me awhile to find what I would enjoy watching. AND just to complain a bit more, I am not really happy with where all the plants are in the tank. More to do for next week.
Fed them and they are fluttering around and looking at the food and crawling all over everything checking it all out.
Maybe have a plan for where the two big tanks will go on the wall.
Got an almost full bucket of Salinity salt mix for making prepared saltwater for the new tank. Going to order at least one powerhead so I can use it for mixing the SW.
Back to trying to plan on how the 80G SW will be put together, I didn't realize I would need to check out so many things.
Shocked by not really "seeing" before all the options on the market for the tanks, integrated accessories working with an expensive controller, and some are wifi, with apps to run them from your phone, and there goes the prices through the roof!
I would glance past the rows of SW equip with three digits in the prices... quickly!
With the SW nanos it was really simple, and low cost in comparison, and mainly natural care in the live rock and a little HOB filter.
Started setting up the new tank for Daddy betta for when he is done with the fry in a few days.
This is going to be a 15 gallon black water tank.
Please ignore all the bubbles and everything I literally just filled it up. Also some of the rocks are holding down the Driftwood until it will stay in place on its own. I've had it soaking for 3-4 days but some of it is being stubborn.
I've thought about adding maybe one anubias nana as an aquatic plant but other than that the only plants I have planned are the vines like I already have on it.
Babies :)
^^^ That is a pretty cool betta tank in the works. Any idea how many babies are in the brood?
I'm saying around 50 but I'm sure that number will go down. I'm hoping for 20 keepers out of the bunch :)
I gathered some Maple leaves and black walnut shells. Bowling the shells right now to make them safe.
Just letting nature drop everything where she wants it. I actually kind of like the leaves tangled up In the roots.
I should note that the black walnut shells were lovingly dehusked and sculpted by squirrels. 0829181147.jpg0829181148.jpg0829181148a.jpg0829181148b.jpg
