    Parasite question?

The black things that came off were probably scales. I don't believe the salt is necessary, but it won't hurt. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think mollies are brackish fish anyway.

    Parasite question?

I don't believe this is a parasitic issue. The wormlike object you saw was most likely a strand of eh... poo. Typically you see a strand like that when your fish is constipated. As to why, it may have been overeating. Do any of the other fish have problems? How often are they fed? How much food...

    Clamped fins

Unless you have tropical fish, the temperature is not a problem. The pH on the other hand, sounds a bit high. Someone who is more knowledgeable about how to handle this will step in soon.

    Clamped fins

Out of curiosity, what is the temperature of the tank? Sometimes low temperatures can cause clamped fins.

    Lemon Tetras F:M Ratio

I have read on some sites that it is preferable to have 1 female for every 2 male WHEN BREEDING, but I am double checking here. First of all, is this true? Secondly, is this ratio still acceptable for the long haul when they are not breeding? I would be very grateful for whatever clarity...

    cycling tank is annoying

Ah! I see. A planted tank is not for everyone as it is indeed a lot of work.

    cycling tank is annoying

I don't wish to complicate your cycling at the moment, but it may be worth while to look into getting live plants at some point in the future. They would certainly benefit from the nitrate, as would the fish since the plants would be absorbing it. During the tricky process you're currently...

    Natural Hermit Crab Setup

I'm not really sure if hermit crabs even have a place on this site to be discussed, but I hope it's here. I have 2 Carribean Hermit Crabs, or Coenobita clypeatus, which my young brother got at the beach and brought home for me to care for. I would like to give these guys a nice home. Currently...

    They do the same thing?

Your first chemical sounds like Prime, which does everything that you want. You will be good to go for ammonia, nitrite and chlorine/chloramine with the Aqueon stuff. =)

    I'll need your help

Hi! Welcome to AA! Fishkeeping is awesome! What kind of tank do you have? Any fish yet? Did you cycle?

    Another newbie to this site

Hi! Welcome to AA first of all! It is fantastic that you care about your fish so much! Not to worry - All the AA guys will get you squared away ASAP. I wish I had some advice to offer, but unfortunately, or fortunately I suppose, I have never had to treat an illness in my fish, so I know little...

    20 gallon

I would not place a Cichlid in your 20 gallon for two reasons: it would be too small for the typical Cichlid, and most Cichlids would eat your tetras (depending on the tetras) or at least nip at them a great deal. As for a fish that could work in there, you might consider a Chinese Algae Eater...

Substrate and plants: Colored vs Natural

Fish will not care in a superficial sense. However, having live plants in your tank can be very beneficial in a few ways. Firstly, it is a small supply of food for your fish. It will also help oxygenate the tank and suck up your nitrate, improving the water quality. Plants will also grow, which...

    Small question

Hello thras! WE're very sorry no one has gotten to your question! I use distilled water myself, and have found that as long as you are very careful with your water changes, it will not cause too much trouble. I have never used ecocomplete, but I will do a little research and see what I can dig...

    Hearty Fish Suggestions

I'm warning you now that members on this forum are not going to like this thread. Lol. I looked into this and found that a plain goldfish or cories worked perfectly for this task. Alternatively, as people on this site would have you do, you can take the filter material out of your hospital tank...
