It only detoxifys, it doesn't remove ammonia. Only way it may become an issue is if it was way over dosed and even then I'm not sure what would happen. Once added it claims it will only work for 48 hours.

Don't mess with your tap ph it will only make things worse down the road. "Once or twice a month water changes" is not going to be enough at less it is a heavily planted tank. You need to slowly get your nitrate down by doing small water changes to not shock the fish every other day till you get...

Do you dose your tank with anything or just use root tabs? What about your light?

During spawning times the female will get very aggressive towards the male. I found in a small footprint tank you must have a lot of decor and plants to break the line of sight. My male had to stay at the other end of a 20 long or she would come at him at full force.

Play sand, blasting sand, gravel from lawn and garden store, kitty litter ( must be a certain type) for substrates Lights can be as cheap as a daylight house bulb. Fake plants you can use whats at a local craft store. Rocks and logs you can get outside or a local stream
