It looks like everything worked. I just fed my empty tank flakes with my auto feeder.
I had no ammonia or nitrites. I had about 40 ppm nitrates. I did a good water change before I left, so if there were no bacteria in the tank, we'd expect there to have been a high level of ammonia, but...
The only day I saw my keyhole cichlids be aggressive was the day I tried to put neons in the tank. I put in a school of 7 neons, and the keyholes immediately ate 3 before I could get the other 4 out and take them back to the store.
Sometimes. There are two problems with that. First, sometimes I'm called away on short notice. Second, on occasion even if the nitrate level is very low, it gets pretty high by the time I get back. That's why I was thinking of planting a small tank to help get rid of the nitrates.
I have a 55 gallon African cichlid tank that sometimes has somewhat high levels of nitrate (about 40 ppm to 50 ppm) because I occasionally have to be out of town for a week or so and miss my weekly partial water change.
I have a 10 gallon tank that I was thinking of turning into a sort of...

Anyone have any...
I bought an auto feeder a while back because I was originally only supposed to be gone 2 weeks. I can use it to feed the tank.
How much do you think I need to use? Less than I would feed the fish?
I have to be away from my tank for about a month. I've already found a home for my fish. Right now there are no fish in my tank. How can I keep the tank cycled while I'm gone so I don't have to start the cycling process all over when I get back?
