I have been reading that Choc Chip Starfish can kill snails and small fish. Since I have both in my aquarium would it be a good idea to return the Starfish to my LFS. I asked the guy at my LFS about this specifically and he said the only thing I have to worry about is other fish attacking the...
Hey Guys, Just picked up a Choc Chip Starfish and have him in my quarantine tank. I was wondering what to feed him and how you know how much? Also would you recommend frozen food, pellets, etc.?
I think the main thing is the propellor thing wasn't seated in there properly but I'm sure cleaning it helped. Thanks again Kurt for the recommendation on the Biowheels makes things pretty simple when i want to get my quarantine tank up and running. :)
I have two Biowheel 100's. One for my main tank and the other for my quarantine tank. The plan was, as someone suggested, to just swap out the biowheel from my main tank to the quarantine to get it cycled instantly. The problem is that both of these filters stopped working after a very short...
I have two clownfish in my 10 gallon qt tank. I am using a marineland biowheel 100 for filtration. My one clownfish is gasping for air and laying on its side. It appears to have some damage to at least one of his fins. The other fish looks fine swimming around energetically. I tested the water...
New Fish in Quarantine
I have had my clown pair for 4 days now here are some observations.
Ammonia- 0.25
Nitrites- 0.1
Specific Gravity- has remained at 1.021 for all 4 days so far.
Temperature- day 1 (76.1) day 2 (79.5) day 3 (78.3) day 4 (79.8)
today both fish seemed to be swimming...
So for my display tank maybe I should be adding some fish food once in a while?
For my quarantine tank I ran the biowheel for a couple of weeks and just unplugged it after that. I didn't think it mattered that I used the filter. Do you think that I can just run my biowheel now and the...
So I should have had the biowheel running through the entire cycle? I had it running for maybe the first week of the cycle. I didn't keep a record of what the levels were. Should I redo the cycle then?
Also, my display tank has been cycled for about 4 weeks now. Will it still be ok if I...
I only have pvc in the tank and I have a Maineland Biowheel 100 which I had off through most of the cycle. I think the test kit is ok because it works with my display tank.
Over the past 4 weeks I have been cycling my 10 gallon quarantine tank with fish food. Everything seemed to be going as expected. Ammonia levels spiked followed by a subsequent lowering of NH3 and increase in Nitrites. Finally both Ammonia and Nitrites are at zero now but my Nitrates never...
I started cycling my 55 gallon on June 6th with 2 jumbo shrimp. Here are my readings today:
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 15-20 (appear to have gone down from 30)
Is my tank cycled?
Should I do a big water change now?
I have very little algae growth on my live rock. Wasn't there supposed...
I'm ready to start cycling my 10 gallon QT tank. I bought some fish food to use for cycling. (Brine Shrimp Flames). Will this do the trick? How often should I add and how much/ how long to get the ammonia spike going?
I still have maybe a week or two for my tank to cycle and have to get the QT tank up first but here is what I'm considering for fish. I'm planning on starting very slow. Maybe only 3 fish in the first six months or so. It's kind of a modification of what is recommended for a 55 in the Michael...
