You are exactly right about keeping weight down. I used plexiglas and glued stone to it with aquarium silicone and then put sphagum moss and gravel over the exposed parts. Also i left the hollow areas under the plexiglass accessible via a small opening so the fish would have a place to hide out...
Just throw them real hard on the garage floor, or sharp scissors and lop off the head. Bottom line is that they are just fish and do not have the advanced brain functions found in higher mammals therefor severing the spinal column will do it. As much as I love my goldfish I am not gonna pay the...
My fancy goldfish are doing fine at about 76 to 78 degrees. I think it has a lot to do with where they are bred and acclimated. Obviously plunging a fancy into an 80 degree tank after being raised in a 70 degree tank for its whole life mightnot be the best idea.
I tried the fiddler crab idea. My wife found him dried up on the bathroom floor. No more escape artist's for me. Thank goodness I found the fire belly toad next to the cats water bowl before she did( the wife or the cat for that matter).
5 goldfish in a ten gallon is way too many. Goldfish can adapt to you water ph (7.0 to 8.0), however the ammonia in the tank probably killed them before it could cycle, the other suggestion is to get water from the aquapure machine at the grocery. Its only 25 cents here and has a ph of about 7...
Ive seen em, but know very little about them. Will they get along with other fish and what is the temp and water parameters. Thanks(anything that eats brown algae is worth lookin in to)
I have several dwarf hybrid aponogetan bulbs in my goldfish tank. I planted them in October and they are all growing extremely well, producing flower stalks and lily pads. My question is due I need to pull them out for a dormant period and how do I go about this?
One more thing about the aquaclear mini is you can run just the foam if you are doin a treatment then add charcoal to remove the meds and the foam will still be colonized with good bacteria.
Playground sand is the most thourghly strained and is actually rinsed with boiling water before being sealed in bags. Ive used it with good results. Also look for blasting sand. (I also use it for automotive sand blasting) It comes in different grades Extra fine, fine, medium coarse etc it is...
Coldwater fish such as goldfish use more oxygen than their warm water cousins even if kept in warmer waters. Circulation would be important with cube to help the water to the surface where the oxygen exchange takes place. Also the more live plants the better, esp rich oxygenators like anachris.
I run 3 hob filters on my 29 gal goldie tank. Total filtration supposed to be like 70 gallons. By having the 3 sperate filters the output stream is split up and i change one filter every 2 weeks so the other 2 have good bacteria colonies til the changed one catches up.
Easy goldfish proof plants in my tank are anachris, red ludwigia, and apognetan bulbs. Also a couple of banana plants. Forget to feed them goldfish though and you will find many of the plants floating at the surface as they root around for food! Rule of thumb is to go with gravel just biger than...
