What would you pay for a 5 inch Gold Severum

I paid $24.95 for a 6 inch green severum at the lfs, $3.95 for a juvenile green severum. I would go $10 - 15 probably, no more than $20 certainly.

    Alkalinity issues

Hi, all! I have a 55 gal and a 10 gal tank (both very well established). Here are the parameters (the same for both tanks): Ammo 0.0 NO2 0.0 NO3 10.0 pH 6.8 hardness 150 alkalinity 0.0 My concern is this: I moved about a month ago and lost the soft water at my old house (I shared...

    My poor Anakin

My juvenile green severum (2"), Anakin, was nibbled by his tankmate, a 2" african cichlid. I recently moved, and placed my fish in a 10 gal tank to empty out my 55 and make the move. I think the nibbling took place in the 10 gal for the two days they were in it. Winter, the cichlid, likes to...

    sicklids

My friend has a 55 gal tank. He's got a 4" oscar, a 3" oscar, and a 4" african. His 4" oscar has been really sick for the last few days. He's very listless, keeled over to one side. His eyes are completely clouded in the center. His abdomen looks like it's flaky. I've tried to find out the...

    Severum on a self-mutilation spree!!

My adult (8") green severum, Nom, is currently on a mad rampage, apparently dashing herself on sharp objects in the tank. Parameters are as follows (before my water change): Ammo - .25, nitrites - 5.0, nitrates - 5.0, temp - 76, ph - 7.6. This is a 55 gallon tank. I do about 15% water change...

my job at the fish store

For those of you who saw my first ever post (about wanting to start my own fish store), I have an update. Two updates, actually. For those who don't know, I'm at least 15 years away from starting my own store, but today I filled out an application for the only real lfs in my town. Here in...

    Chlorine, chloramines & heavy metals

I was told (by my mother) that if you let your tap water sit for a day or two (in a bucket or open jug) the chlorine will disperse from the water. Something about being exposed to the air allows the chlorine to be expelled. Now my mother was an avid fish breeder about ten years ago (had 400+...

    My keyhole cichlids have FRY!

Woo hoo! Congrats, "dad"! Good luck with all those fishies!

    Starting my own store.

What exactly is an " air-driven sponge-filter/overflow sort of system"? I don't quite understand the whole "overflow" issue, though I've heard mention of it quite a bit (lots of people mentioning their sumps and pumps and overflow tanks).

Photo of my Nano....Any visual suggestions!?

What is a "nano"? Does it refer to the size of the tank? or is it a specific shape or brand? Sorry, I'm a newbie. Whatever a nano is, yours is looking nice. I wish I could afford a saltwater setup.

Sorry, I'm a newbie here. Just wondering exactly what a "sump" is. Thanks.

OK to add LR to established tank?

I don't have a marine tank, but I've heard live rock mentioned many times, and am curious as to these "hitchhikers". What are they? Do they grow/move?

    Plant Bulbs from Walmart

I've had two varieties of those "Wal-Mart" bulbs in my tank for about two and a half weeks with no sign of growth. My green severum likes to forage around in the substrate, and I know the bulbs have been tossed around quite a bit. I guess I had attributed all the rough handling to the lack of...

    bio-wheel & catridge

Are the bio-wheels designed simply to house the biofilter for the tank? Isn't the biofilter present inside the aquarium (on all the items in the tank)? I have a 55 gal with the Emp 400, and I guess I hadn't really considered what the bio-wheels were for.
