    Very awkward tiger barb actions

I have 10 barbs in my one of my tanks, and I see this behavior all the time. I do not think you have anything to worry about.

New Tank, advice needed on Air Pumps

Simply for the sake of fairness, I used Cycle on my two tanks. It did absolutely nothing for my first tank. However, it did significantly accelerate the cycling of my second tank.

    Airbubbles

Air bubbles are caused by the water being saturated and no longer capable of holding the disolved air. The colder a liquid is, the greater it's capacity to hold gasses. That is why it is common to see air bubbles shortly after water changes. Generally, the water that we put into the tank is...

    A question of lighting

hey all, I've been doing some shoppin around for some 24" fluorescents as to increase my WPG [currently sitting slightly above 1 (40÷34)] because my Cabombas are looking pretty miserable (was told they were low light plants by the LFS "expert"...). All I can find are 20 watt florescents. Are...

    Is PVC safe?

flamingonhot, did you use standard hot glue gun glue sticks, or is there a special kind that you used? i've been looking to make a cave as well and if I could use those, it would safe me having to run to the LHS! Thanks,

    Barbs and Angels

hey all I will be aquiring some tiger barbs (eventually make my way up to a school of 8 ) once our 44G tank is cycled, and my wife also would like some angels in there. Can we mix angels and barbs? If so, under which conditions can it be done? Any information would be much appreciated!

    Filter/CO2 Reactor concept

Alright, the carbon filter definately has to go in that case. I am also going to be "reversing" the design as to push the water downwards rather than upwards. I want it to be as efficient as possible. A prefilter is definately a good idea! When I have an updated plan, I will post it!

    Filter/CO2 Reactor concept

Kewl, thanks. I will definately keep your advice in mind when revising my plans. Nothing is set in stone yet. Now just a quick follow up question. Would the carbon filter still be useless if I put fish in the tank? Or should I remove it altogether from my plans?

    Filter/CO2 Reactor concept

On saturday, I will be picking up a 44G corner tank, with the plans of making it a planted tank. I've been toying around with the idea of making my own filter/co2 reactor. I've come up with the following concept... The casing will be made of acrylic, and will containt 4 compartments. The first...

    Lock down!

Unfortunately [in this case] my daughter is a monkey with the strength of a gorilla. Velcro would pose no challenge to her in the event that she set her mind on doing this again. However, I never considered standard child safety mechanisms. I have to take a run to walmart today anyways, so I...

    Lock down!

The other day, while preparing lunch for my eldest daughter (who just turned 2), she decided she was going to rearrange the inside of the aquarium, and not in a very nice way. Plants were floating, caves were overturned and our black mystery snail somehow to chipped in the process (nothing...

    Strength and look of acrylic

Since browsing this part of the forum, I have become truly interested in building my own tank. Before I can do this, I need two questions asked however. 1- How strong are DIY acrylic tanks (provided it is properly constructed) compared to, say, a commercially fabricated glass tank? 2- How do...
