I dont know about slugs but many fish enjoy chopped up earthworms.

If the fish is healthy then please dont euthenize it, a lfs will gladly take the problem out of your hands. If there is no alternative then temperature shock by placing the fish in the freezer is the best way 2 euthenize.

A gravel cleaner takes water out too, it is the best way to get dirt from the bottom, but if you have live plants in the tank be carefull not to take out too much of the dirt (fishwaste) as it feeds the plants and keeps them healthy.

Hmm I doubt it is the filter, I have had the same filter in for a long time and the filter media is changed frequently. I have not added anything to the tank recently... Thanks for the reply.
