Life rock making the water very bubbley

Two days ago, I put in 115 lbs of Carib sea life rock into a 125 reef aquarium we are starting. After about 24 hours, the water became so bubbley that the skimmer was overflowing. Has anyone had a similar experience? I did not rinse the rock because it was treated with bacteria in the...

    Do I need multiple returns?

I am setting up a 125g, which is predrilled with 2 overflows. Each overflow has 2 holes drilled at the bottom of the tank. I have set up 2 drain lines, each running directly to the sump. My question is, would you recommend having 2 return lines? If so, should I run a separate pump for each...

Opinion on a hydrogen sulfide smell

I use RO/DI water in my tank. We have a good water supply here but it was alkaline. Using RO/DI was an easy way to lower the pH without adding chemicals to the tank.

Opinion on a hydrogen sulfide smell

I have a ceramic log that has a faint smell of rotten eggs every time I take it out of the tank to scrub it down. I do this every week with my regular water changes. I am assuming it is hydrogen sulfide, but why would it be associated with this one piece of tank decor? I have had no problems...

What size sump for a 125gal Reef tank?

I don't have the tank as of yet. In the process of purchasing the necessities. My lighting will be 3 taotronics LED 120 watt fixtures. This tank is part of a grant I received to start up a reef system for a local high school. I hope to set up as large a refugium as possible.

What size sump for a 125gal Reef tank?

I really have two questions. First, what size sump is appropriate for a 125 gal tank? Second, the tank I am setting up has 2 overflowes. Would it be benefitial to have 2 separate sumps? Maybe having one contain the skimmer and the other be a large refugium. Any help you could give would be much...

    Ram Cichlid in Community Tank

Rams are great for a community tank. I have 4 of them in a tank with a school of tetras and 3 gouramis. I have a number of ghost shrimp in there as well. The rams sometime mess with each other, but never with anybody else.

What canister for a 75g tank?

Looking to start up a 75g tank with an Oscar and electric blue Dempsey. Is an FX5 too much for a tank this size? I am looking for the extra gph, but do not want to overwhelm the fish, especially when young.

What could be put with an Oscar in a 75 gallon?

I am looking to keep an oscar in a 75g. I would like to keep at least three fish in the tank. What fish could defend themselves and look good in that size tank? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Too much fish for a 75 gallon?

I am looking at getting an Oscar, green terror and an electric blue jack Dempsey. My lfs said it would not be a problem for a 75 gallon, but it seems a little much. That would be about 30 inches of fish length. Let me know if my instincts are right on this.
