I had done a 50% water change yesterday but today the pH was even worse (5.5! :() and there is a vinegary smell in the tank so I'm sure that you're right about the mixture getting into the tank. (And, the bottle had fallen over.)

HOB filter
heated low 70s F
occupants: 2 ADFs
plants: Java fern, crypt, dwarf anubias
Hagen CO2 system
25% water change every 1-2 weeks

I'm sorry about your loss.
I agree is Zagz, a couple of days of not eating after a move is not unusual.
Do you have test kits? (pH, ammonia, nitrite)?
What is the temperature?
I don't think Melafix will help with ammonia poisoning.
Get a water conditioner like Amquel which detoxifies ammonia while supposedly allowing the cycle to continue.

My betta also lost a large chunk of his tail during the cycle. It eventually grew back--for some reason, the new growth is a brighter red than the old.
Give him good quality water and food, and try antibiotics (but I'm not sure if they're available...
