    staghorn algae???

My kh is 3 and ph is 7, I believe that gives me a co2 level of around 9, a little low. I do not have a nitrate or phosphate kit. But even if I did and the levels were high then I would just do a waterchange to bring them down. I already do one 40% change a week. I have 130 watts of light also...

    staghorn algae???

I have a fairly new 55g planted, its probably 3 months old or so. I recently started up some diy co2. Since then this algae has almost exploded. I think its staghorn, all I know is that its practilly growing before my eyes. I did a search and saw that on an old post Malkore suggested running the...

    DIY CO2 output

scarf, I had a batch that I mixed up today do nothing at all, not a bubble to be seen. After a few hours had passed and I was sure it wasnt going to work I dumped a little more yeast right into the bottle and shook it up. Now its making bubbles like a champ.

Why didnt my co2 level rise?

CZCZ, I see a lot of people here recommend feeding the co2 line into the filter intake. I didnt go this route because it would seem like it would be difficult to tell when your yeast was no longer making co2. Is there something that I missed on that? I will move my bell for now and see if that...

Why didnt my co2 level rise?

No airstones, as for surface agitation I have an aquaclear running, but my waterlevel is high enough that it doesnt splash as the water is returned to the tank. Chris

Why didnt my co2 level rise?

I have had a diy co2 system on my tank for over a week now. I have it bubbling into an upside down container that is suction cupped onto the side of my tank. It has been full and bubbling over this whole time yet my co2 is only about 3 or less ppm. Whats the reason it never rose. Does it take...

    hydra infestation

Cycling the tank sounds like a good idea. I really thought that all the plants I added that had came out of tanks with fish in them would have had enough bacteria to seed my substrate(eco complete). Can someone tell me about the fishless cycling method. Ive always used a few fish to do it. Chris

    hydra infestation

I have recently setup a 55g planted tank. Unfortunatly some of my new plants must have some hydras on it because now my glass has millions of them on it. I did a search on this site and saw that people had good results with Bausmans fish tonic. Is this readily avaliable? I also saw that people...

    does this tank need co2?

I am putting together a planted 55. For lighting I have a 130 watts of powercompacts. I never thought this tank would need co2 but I read something that made me wonder if it would. I do not want it and would like to do without it if I can. I would like to hear your opinions on this. Thanks, Chris

what is your favorite lighting fixture

I am setting up a 55 planted tank. I cannot decide what fixture to use for the lighting. I would like to get away from the big "clunky box" that is on top of a lot of tanks. However I would use it if I had to. I saw some corallife power compact setup's that just perch over the tank on little...

    cleaning an empty used tank

I was given a 55g that was bought used from a petstore. I have no idea of the history on this tank and have no way to find it out. Because of this I want to make sure it's really clean before using it. I was thinking of using some bleachy water to sanitize it, this sound ok to everyone? Chris

    rainwater

The friend that I am talking about doesnt live anywhere near a metro area, so the rain is as "pollution free" as rain gets. Yes, I know that there is "stuff" in rain but the tap isnt exactly a mountain spring either. No I wouldnt want to drink a bucket of rainwater, but I wouldnt want to eat a...
