The only warning I would give, is you have to keep in mind that angels are indeed cichlids.
I've had angels that were flat out nasty to my other fish, not allowing anyone above the plant line. But seeng as you have them in a 55 it should be ok.
I'm not sure about the open cell foam. But pillow stuffing is nothing more than polyester fiber or "filter floss".
But I would not use a used pillow. No telling how much drool has been caught in it. lol. The cost of a new pillow will be more than just buying some filter floss from Dr Foster n...
My advise is to remove the crushed coral.
Out of the tap your PH is fine, as most tropicals will deal with any PH within reason. Adding the coral allows you to have PH swings. This is not good.
So remove your coral, and allow your PH to be what it is.
Sounds like spot algae. I've had it in a few of my non planted tanks, and I'm not sure what actually causes it. These tanks had very low nitrate, but yet it still was a problem. Outside of what you are doing with the bleach I've yet to be able to control it, and nothing that I know of will eat...
I actually think that green terrors get a bit bulkier than Oscars, plus there is a reason they have that name.
I'm sorry but this would not be a good mix in your tank. Puffers do best in a species only tank. Or you can have a new tank with hand selected and researched tank mates.
Dwarf puffers...
there are a lot of factors that cause fin rot.
do a good water change, then treat with Melafix. This normally fixes it.
Could you give us more info on your tank? Water pers, stocking, who has the rot?
This will help us a great deal.
At 7.4 adding peat is not needed to keep rams healthy. You might need to if/when you want them to breed. But they will do fine in that PH granted they are not wild. Most aren't. So ask your LFS.
Ditto to what's been said. Especially the part about the fish not actually needing the "right" PH as long as it isn't wild caught. Even more sensitive fish such as rams can tolerate higher PH levels with in reason.
If you want the peat to be effective, you do have to remove any carbon in your...
tetrin, Prob not a good idea to rinse eco out at all. I've put it in 2 tanks and it does in fact come out crystal clear without rinsing. Rinsing it out will just wash out the benificial bacteria that is already in it. Just an FYI for anyone who reads this. :)
You should take the fish out of the tank. Keep them in a bucket full of tank water and a heater (if you think it's going to take a wile) then proceed with the change out.
A slower way would be to do it all one handfull at a time. But your still going to make a mess in your tank. You can limit...
