My advise is to remove the crushed coral. Out of the tap your PH is fine, as most tropicals will deal with any PH within reason. Adding the coral allows you to have PH swings. This is not good. So remove your coral, and allow your PH to be what it is.

there are a lot of factors that cause fin rot. do a good water change, then treat with Melafix. This normally fixes it. Could you give us more info on your tank? Water pers, stocking, who has the rot? This will help us a great deal.

tetrin, Prob not a good idea to rinse eco out at all. I've put it in 2 tanks and it does in fact come out crystal clear without rinsing. Rinsing it out will just wash out the benificial bacteria that is already in it. Just an FYI for anyone who reads this. :)

Sounds like a bacteria bloom with a possible ammonia spike. Over cleaning wipes out too many of the beneficial bacteria, thus causing the dreaded cloudy water. Also the fish may have succumbed to the high levels of nitrates, but at 80 ppm that's a bit of a stretch.

I agree with tank girl. You could also do a tank of shellies. Very interesting small African cichlid. You could prob have one male and a few females in a 20. As they make their nests out of shells I doubt they would hurt you plants much. I've never kept them so I'm not 100% sure about this.

Yes this is true, but it is not advised for beginners to try. Also adding some floating stem type plants like hornwort will help with nitrates. This doesn't mean you can skimp on the water changes, but it does help with the quality of the water. What exactly are you thinking of trying?

I've had bad experiences with UGF I did find that the best way to go with them is the reverse flow. 2 power heads with the other uplift tubes blocked off it the way to go. Warning tho, when you first turn it on in the reverse flow direction be ready for a lot of stuff to come into the water.

I keep MANY MTS (read hundreds) in most of my tanks and all of my perms are the same. Never thought about the snails being the culprit here. But they are not exactly fast growers. DOH! Nice call.
