    my oscar tank

Your little Oscars are awesome, but you have to remember that these fish can grow up to 15" or even bigger! You can definitely do one, maybe two Oscars in a 78g. You will need excellent filtration if you try to keep two in a 78g tank. I'd aim for 15+ water cycles per hour. (Around 1200 GPH, or...

    Power head??

I have a powerhead in my 125. Fish like the current, and I needed the extra water movement in the 6' tank. My fish have learned to use it to relocate the sand. They will pickup a mouth full of sand and go put it in front of the powerhead to send it shooting across the tank.

    Lets see your Africans!!!!

I got my girl to let me upgrade to my 125g by taking it from 3 tanks to 1. And I'd much rather have a single large tank than multiple smalls haha.

55 gal stock advice - considering cichlids...

JD's are great, I have a beautiful 8" Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. The EBJD's seem to be a bit more shy than the regular JD's as the above poster picture shows. Here's the Electric Blue. Oh and yes, +1 on an Oscar not being able to live in a 55g for it's whole life.

    My Fish In Cycle :)

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Just a low lying structure of rocks running from left to right in the tank. (Ugly picture, I just got the 125 setup in this pic and didn't have my black background up) I don't really like having too many borrows because the fish will become really...

    My Fish In Cycle :)

Cool new additions. Congrats. Get over to a local landscape store and get some rock. Much cheaper than buying it from fish shops. I paid a high price for my lace rock, but I just love how it looks. Remember to be careful with stacking a bunch of rock up high, it could crack your tank if it...

Dumbest thing you did while cycling...

My first tank was a 10g tank and I put fish in it the same day. Listened to Petco. A few days later I got a 20g tank and got an Oscar for it, Petco again. That night I googled "Oscar care" and was like woooahhh. So I immediately went out and got him a 55g tank to grow up in, and I talked a...

Red top afras (calm or not)

I have two and they aren't very aggressive at all in my tank. Even my Red Zebra gets shut down by my Male Kenyi. Just remember that whatever people might tell you, it could end up being the opposite. You could get a red top afra and he will be a complete terror, while a different red top afra...

    Mbuna and Java moss

Moss was ripped apart in my African tank and then clogged the hell out of my filter intakes. Wasn't worth the trouble at all..

African Cichlid--smallest tank without being inhumane?

African's will not live well in a 10g. I'd take Jeta's advice and do a nano such as CPD.

    My Fish In Cycle :)

I only really scanned through the whole thread, since it's pretty big. So if I repeat anything don't get upset haha. With African's you'll need to stock the 55 pretty heavy. Before upgrading I had about 15+ in there. It really helps spread the aggression out with the cichlids. You'll need to...
