today i had a particularly invigorating phone call (ha) during which i was watching my tank, when i noticed a brownish dot on the side. i thought it was a bug on the outside, or a spot of the various things my dogs may leave wherever their noses fall, so i go to wipe it off.
it's on the...
it's not splashing water... the water level is almost at the height of the filter output (i don't like to see water line below the rim of the tank)
the actual filter is making a rattling type of noise... like the impeller is running against the side of the tube... or... something.
i just...
i just got my first aquaclear filter the other day and set it up last night on my old tank to begin seeding the filter...
it's so loud! 8O
i'm fairly certain it's running properly... water is running through it and the flow is steady... but i've never really heard my filter running before...
thanks for the replies guys.... i've been researching a little bit for a couple months, and once i get out of school, i'll be obsessive about it... and i'll have at least a month to keep researching while the tank's cycling.
i don't plan on upgrading, at least not for some time. i have...
yeah, i guess i did miss that sticky. sorry. *feels stupid*
well, i've done a little reading on what to get and so far from what i've read and what was mentioned here, i think i can stay on my budget to at least get it up and running.
live rock ($150 or less since LFS knows me and gives me...
I'm trying to read, but that's the problem... I don't know where to start. I've read all the articles that are posted in the article thread, but I haven't yet found a comprehensive list of what I'd need to start.
I've done FW, so I know about cycling... but other than that, I'm fairly lost. I...
I am a completely noob to saltwater. I've never had a SW tank, and frankly I don't even know where to start. I've had FW for a couple years now, but I just aquired a new tank and want to do something a little more challenging.
I have a 20 gallon tank and a new aquaclear 30 (rated for 10-30...
I'd go for FedEx instead of USPS.... almost all of the packages i get through USPS are so beat up... i recieve stuff that's been broken in shipping all the time, even if it's marked as fragile, so the postal service might not be the best for live stuff. I do a lot on ebay, and FedEx seems to...
i think black ghost knifefish are fun to watch... the way they move is spectacular.
http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=857&N=0 a 40 gallon tank is cutting it a little close on size, but IMO you should be okay unless you have a weird shape like a hex or cube tank or...
the only theme i have is that i name everything after music in some capacity. my honey gouramis are fred and ginger, my puffer is satchmo, my crayfish is ludwig (because beethoven was a grouch and so is he), and my ADF is floyd (pink floyd)
i also have a chinchilla named amadeus, a chameleon...
hm.... well i'll go out tomorrow and grab up a ghost shrimp, but this isn't looking too promising.
has anybody kept ADFs with puffers? what other tankmates could go in there?
has anybody kept larger snails with DPs successfully? i love ramshorns, but i don't want to put a snail in there for...
of course, doing a 50% pwc on a 3 gallon tank is about 30 seconds of work so i think you could get away with 3 harlequins, 2 otos, and a snail. i have a 3 gallon eclipse that housed about 20 guppy fry from birth to about 1/2" apiece on a 50% pwc twice a week. i think you'll be fine with your...
