nope, i only feed flake and bloodworms. i like them too, so i'm not worried. just terribly confused.

    snails?! how?!?!

today i had a particularly invigorating phone call (ha) during which i was watching my tank, when i noticed a brownish dot on the side. i thought it was a bug on the outside, or a spot of the various things my dogs may leave wherever their noses fall, so i go to wipe it off. it's on the...

    snail?

i don't know how a snail would come in with fish... they usually come in on plants. i'd take it out unless you want a couple hundred of them in time.

    noisy noisy! (new filter)

it's not splashing water... the water level is almost at the height of the filter output (i don't like to see water line below the rim of the tank) the actual filter is making a rattling type of noise... like the impeller is running against the side of the tube... or... something. i just...

    noisy noisy! (new filter)

i just got my first aquaclear filter the other day and set it up last night on my old tank to begin seeding the filter... it's so loud! 8O i'm fairly certain it's running properly... water is running through it and the flow is steady... but i've never really heard my filter running before...

    SW noob on a budget....

thanks for the replies guys.... i've been researching a little bit for a couple months, and once i get out of school, i'll be obsessive about it... and i'll have at least a month to keep researching while the tank's cycling. i don't plan on upgrading, at least not for some time. i have...

    SW noob on a budget....

yeah, i guess i did miss that sticky. sorry. *feels stupid* well, i've done a little reading on what to get and so far from what i've read and what was mentioned here, i think i can stay on my budget to at least get it up and running. live rock ($150 or less since LFS knows me and gives me...

    SW noob on a budget....

I'm trying to read, but that's the problem... I don't know where to start. I've read all the articles that are posted in the article thread, but I haven't yet found a comprehensive list of what I'd need to start. I've done FW, so I know about cycling... but other than that, I'm fairly lost. I...

    SW noob on a budget....

I am a completely noob to saltwater. I've never had a SW tank, and frankly I don't even know where to start. I've had FW for a couple years now, but I just aquired a new tank and want to do something a little more challenging. I have a 20 gallon tank and a new aquaclear 30 (rated for 10-30...

Getting ready to ship some snails, how to?

I'd go for FedEx instead of USPS.... almost all of the packages i get through USPS are so beat up... i recieve stuff that's been broken in shipping all the time, even if it's marked as fragile, so the postal service might not be the best for live stuff. I do a lot on ebay, and FedEx seems to...

Stocking Help: What are FUN fish?

i think black ghost knifefish are fun to watch... the way they move is spectacular. http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=857&N=0 a 40 gallon tank is cutting it a little close on size, but IMO you should be okay unless you have a weird shape like a hex or cube tank or...

What is the "theme" of your aquarium?

the only theme i have is that i name everything after music in some capacity. my honey gouramis are fred and ginger, my puffer is satchmo, my crayfish is ludwig (because beethoven was a grouch and so is he), and my ADF is floyd (pink floyd) i also have a chinchilla named amadeus, a chameleon...

    small inverts?

hm.... well i'll go out tomorrow and grab up a ghost shrimp, but this isn't looking too promising. has anybody kept ADFs with puffers? what other tankmates could go in there? has anybody kept larger snails with DPs successfully? i love ramshorns, but i don't want to put a snail in there for...

    My new "themed" tank inhabitants

of course, doing a 50% pwc on a 3 gallon tank is about 30 seconds of work so i think you could get away with 3 harlequins, 2 otos, and a snail. i have a 3 gallon eclipse that housed about 20 guppy fry from birth to about 1/2" apiece on a 50% pwc twice a week. i think you'll be fine with your...

    Is it just me?

haha, yeah sounds like me too. i can't seem to get out of my favourite LFS without SOMETHING extra... some plants, a snail (i love ramshorn snails... and i have far too many for my own good), new decorations, etc. careful not to keep coming home with fish, you don't want to overcrowd your...

    small inverts?

haha, i have a crayfish in my other tank. he's way too big to even think about putting in a 3gal even if he would be okay to live with my puffer. i've never seen any of those shrimp you mentioned czcz, and i've been looking in several places. the only shrimp i've seen around me are ghost...

    Guppy Fin Damaged

other fish would probably bother him. try melafix... and take the carbon out of the filter on your hospital tank. i have no idea what a fungus tablet could possibly be, but melafix will probably help out the little guy. if it was fungus, you would see spots on him or the ends of the fins...

    small inverts?

are there any inverts (besides snails and ghost shrimp) that can go in a teensy 3-gallon tank? i have my 3gal set up with lots of plants and just one dwarf puffer (and a constant supply of hitchiker snails that the puffer snacks on) and i'm wondering if there's anything i could put in there...

    Will it work?

i'd also agree no discus... and not a common pleco. get something smaller like a bristlenose or something. i don't think a common pleco would be comfortable in a 28gal. he'd live there, but not comfortably, IMO.

    Share your fishie mistakes!!!

^^ that's nothing. my friend's kid (who is 4) one hot summer day thought that her betta was too hot (inside mind you, in the air conditioned house... kids are strange), so she put the bowl in the fridge. we didn't find out that the fish was missing until several hours later when we went in for...

Support, should I worry about this?

sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but i didn't want to stary another one about architecture when there are already two around... i have a question out of sheer curiosity. how big of a tank can you have in your average house before you have to start worrying about the floor supporting it...

    thinking about gouramis

honey gouramis would be much more comfortable in a 10 gallon than even your regular dwarf gourami. right now i have a 10gal with 2 honeys and (too many) guppies and a crayfish and it's really cool. you could also go with platies, which look kind of like mollies but stay smaller.

    angelfish and neon tetras

my half-grown angel ate an adult guppy, which is twice the size of a neon at LEAST. and, uh... what's a large neon? i've only ever seen them relatively the same size.

you can't find an adapter to fit the python on your tub tap? i thought they had one that was kinda just rubber that squished onto any flat tap, but i might be crazy and making that up. i could not imagine doing all of that with buckets. wow.
