    Eclipse 6 pump went out

Got it working - thanks! Opened it up and cleaned the impeller and it started right up when I plugged it back in. :thumb: Never realized you could open up and clean in there...

    Eclipse 6 pump went out

We have an Eclipse System 6, 6 gallon aquarium and have had it for about 5 years. The pump often goes off with power outages and usually I can get it going again by rapping on the top of the housing, but not today - it seems to be dead. Local places do not have the part so I will order it...

One year tank anniversary - need advice on supply order

Thanks everyone. I've completed my order with Prime, a spare bio-wheel and a few new types of food. Our fish will have a happy new year!

One year tank anniversary - need advice on supply order

After one year of fishkeeping in our Eclipse 6-gallon, we have five fish...a silver tipped tetra, and four marble mollies. I'm going to place an order online (probably BigAls) because I need filter inserts and dechlorinator. We have been using Stress Coat which was recommended by...

Tank packaging shows too many fish!

I've noticed lately that the photographs on tank packaging show what I've now learned are way overstocked tanks. For instance, our 6 gallon tank shows about 5 goldfish or 20 smaller fish in the photographs on the box. Yesterday I saw an ad for an 8 gallon tank with three goldfish. It seems to...

    Molly harassing platy

We have a plant, a rock and a castle, so there are places to hide. Since I did the water change, the molly is still bothering the platy occasionally, but the platy is no longer hiding :-). Thanks for the info on the M/F fin differences; now I know the biggest molly is a male and I think all...

    Molly harassing platy

We have had our Eclipse 6 set up since January this year, and, after losing our first two fish in the first few days, now have a platy, a silver tipped tetra, and 5 mollies that were born right at the start. Some things that have happened recently seem to be related to the mollies getting...

    Newbie with ich treatment questions

Thanks so much. That approach makes sense to me. The water temp is at 79 now, and I will slowly bring it up to 80-82 and see if any more spots develop. It's a good feeling to be doing something, yet not something drastic!

    Newbie with ich treatment questions

We have a 6 gallon Eclipse aquarium which has been set up since Christmas. After losing our first two fish, one of which had had babies, I found this site and got help to get cycled. Since then, everything's been fine until this morning when I noticed a white spot on our platy's tail. It...

    Noob question re: adding Melafix

We have a 6 gallon eclipse tank with a platy, a tetra and 8 young mollies. For the second time, the platy has a split dorsal fin. The first time, I used the Melafix and it worked great. At the time, we were cycling and I added it with the daily water changes. Now I am doing weekly water...

Will oven cleaning fumes hurt my fish?

We have a 6 gal tank that has been set up since last Christmas, with a platy, a tetra, and 8 young mollies. The latter were born to one of our original fish that died. We have the tank in the kitchen on the counter between the fridge and the range. I'm going to run the self-cleaning cycle on...

Oops, froze the fish! Heater advice needed

It's not a mercury thermometer...my mistake. It sounds like for now I should trust the thermometer a bit more and turn the heater down a notch. Thanks all.

Oops, froze the fish! Heater advice needed

What we have is a mercury thermometer suctioned to the inner wall of the tank in the corner opposite the heater and filter. I will look into getting a digital one. Thanks

Oops, froze the fish! Heater advice needed

We've had the Visi-Therm 50W in the tank for about a week now. I set it for 77 degrees and it's brought the temp up to a steady reading of 80 degrees on our thermometer. The fish are doing fine. I remember reading somewhere that the thermometers can be inaccurate, so for now I'm thinking that...

Baby mollies - when to release them

Well our 8 baby mollies grew fast in 2 months, and the netting on the playpen was covered with algae (it really looked awful but my efforts to clean it did not work), so we decided to release the babies last weekend after our weekly PWC and when we were home to observe how they did. The platy...

Oops, froze the fish! Heater advice needed

I decided to go with the Visi-Therm 50 W from Big Al's Online. It sounds like it will be way better than the heater we have and should probably be able to keep from overheating the water in the summer too. Thanks so much everyone. This site is great!

Oops, froze the fish! Heater advice needed

We've had our Eclipse 6 gal tank for almost 2 months now. We have a platy and a tetra and 8 baby mollies. It's cycled and overall doing well. We are doing 35% PWC's weekly. The heater is a basic 50 W submersible with a dial on top. We went away for the weekend, turned the house temp from the...

Dead platy & molly in new 6 gal set-up

It is a silver-tipped tetra which I think is not an aggressive type. The chasing is only happening occasionally now, so I think overall the two are getting along OK. It seems surprising that poor water quality would contribute to undesirable behavior, but perhaps it does.

Dead platy & molly in new 6 gal set-up

Hey, we're almost there! We've been able to space out the water changes to 35% every couple of days, and now have had 3 successive days of 0 nitrite and about 10 nitrate. Fish are looking really good and active.

    Platy with split dorsal fin

Just finished with the 7 days of melafix. The dorsal fin is just about good as new and all of the platy's other fins look better than ever 8) Thanks everybody!

Is this algae? What do I do about it?

We have a 6 gal tank started up a month ago. We have a platy and a tetra plus 8 baby mollies which are in a hanging plastic frame/mesh enclosure. There is starting to be filmy stuff growing on the rubber parts of the heater and the thermometer. The platy eats this stuff. Is this OK or should...

    How much gravel needed?

Just started up a 6 gallon tank a month ago. It's going well now after a few rounds of advice from AA. Just remembered tho, that I followed the advice of the lfs, and used one bag of gravel (5-6 lbs I think), although I believe the guideline on the bag of gravel said 1.5 lbs per gallon tank...

    Platy with split dorsal fin

Thanks for the advice! I have added the melafix proportionally with the last two water changes and the fin is looking better already! I did not take the charcoal out. Lastnight we did a 50% PWC and this morning the nitrite was down to 0.5. Will do a 50% PWC again tonight. Since I am doing...

    Platy with split dorsal fin

All that is in the tank is the filter, heater, thermometer, one lava rock with a hole in the middle, one plastic plant and the plastic frame with mesh around it for the baby mollies. The fin does not have any white areas...reddish it's hard to say because the fin is bright orangy in color but I...
