    Kinda Stumped, again. Algae issues

I know, and I'm sorry to bring up something like an algae issue. It's supposed to be easy to deal with if you did the research. I did the research, I messed with the tank for a while. I can't figure the algae issue out though. Okay, some background on the tank: 29G planted tank Eco...

    Algae ID?

I've been looking around on identification threads and can't seem to find anything that matches this. It's sort of like green petals growing out from the rock. Looks like a macro algae but I'm new to the hobby so I'm not sure what it is. The tank has more or less finished the diatom bloom...

    HOB to Sponge Filter

Ive switched over to the dual sponge filters in most of my tanks. Even in tanks with an already established filter, I like to throw one in cause having an extra seeded sponge filter is always nice. I actually got rid of my HOB because it would clog and overflow within days even with minimal...

    What plants are these?

It's hard to tell but maybe the stem plant is ludwigia repens and the big leaf one might be an oriental sword.

    Need help cycling !!!!

To me, the fact that you see nitrates and no nitrites is a sign that you're headed in the right direction. It sounds like you have a small colony of BB starting but it is not big enough to handle all the ammonia created. At this point it is only a matter of time. Keep a close eye on your...

    Ammonia Problems

Your tap water reads 4.0 ammonia? That's extremely high! I'm not entirely sure but maybe your city's water supplier is flushing out their system?

    Can't Control This Aggressive Algae!

My mistake, Caliban is right. Excel adds carbon in another form. What I said applies to CO2, not the form that excel uses.

    Floodlight as a light

It's most likely LED, which would be fairly good for medium light I'd imagine, if not high light. I considered this myself too, but I didn't have a canopy or method to put them up in a way that I figured would look good. Best of luck to you!

    Can't Control This Aggressive Algae!

I wouldnt dose flourish excel in a tank without plants. At that point your making the dissolved co2 in the water much higher than normal with no plants to use it, so only your surface gas exchange would balance it out. Sure, if you put enough in itd probably get rid of the algae but all the fish...

    Help ammonia spike!

Theres no harm in overfiltration, the only thing is that at some point there is a case of diminishing returns where your tank wont produce enough waste to fully sustain the entire filter worth of bacteria, but it gives you headroom to expand. Good luck with your tank, I hope your pleco is fine!

Best Site to Buy Plants From?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned jacobsaquarium! He charges 8$ flat for shipping (US only I believe), the plants are grown completely submerged, are extremely healthy and cheap :D

    Are my plants ok?

The Watts per gallon rule is quite obsolete, specially with LEDs. What matters is par ratings at your tank's depths. As for planting them, each plant is different. I'm not an expert on this, but I'd say your plants should be fine in terms of light.

    LED Strip Hood/Fixture?

Hey, I'm a fan of LED fixtures such as the Finnex lights, but there's one thing that tends to bother me about them. After trying to look if anyone else did something about it, I decided to make a post. So unlike t8's that have a hood, I noticed the LED strips "leak" a lot of light. I was...

    Planning future planted tank

Darn, looks like you're right. My first check claimed they don't get above 4 inches, but upon further checking, they can get up to 6 inches and a 55g min is recommended. :( Looks like I can't keep one of these awesome fish Guess this is why it's always good to check with multiple sources

    WiFi 's Tank shots

I'm jealous of your hex tank :) Love the sand and clear simplistic beachy feel it has with the plants

    Tails of Fish - New

Careful when cleaning your filter, if it's the pad you're cleaning. If you do need to clean it because it's obstructing flow, be sure to do it in old tank water in order not to kill the beneficial bacteria on it. Otherwise, your tank will not process ammonia too well which will result in fish deaths

    Clown Loaches

They look amazing in a schooling tank. I recommend you check out Corey from AquariumCoop, he's setting up a massive tank for a crazy amount of clown loaches

    My New Tank

Love the plants on the HOB. Do you have a light for them or is ambient enough for them? I've always been on the fence about getting plants for my HOB because it looks great but I wasn't sure if I'd have to supplement light to them specifically which would be hard in my case

My happy fish :) (temp tank for goby)

Is that a bichir? I didn't think those could get so long but slender. Looks awesomely exotic, like a dinosaur in your fish tank  :thumb:

    Planning future planted tank

Hey guys, I'm planning for a 30g tank I'm going to set up over time. I'm planning to go for a densely planted tank, with some slate and natural grey tones to be complimented with green plants. I was wondering a few things about potential stocking ideas. So I want Tiger barbs, which I'd keep...

    Reducing water flow for Betta?

Off topic and I can't tell if it is or not, but the rhizome of Java fern should not be planted under the substrate or it'll die. Tie it to a rock or driftwood or find a way to sink it while having the roots out or it'll wither fairly quick. Java fern absorbs nutrients from the water column so...

Kh nonexistant and Ph super low?

Update: I can get crushed coral and apply it with no problem starting today. However, I'd rather get to the cause of what is just completely deleting my Kh. I tested some treated tap water that I hadn't put in my tank that was left out since yesterday and the tap readings were good, ~7.5 Ph...

Kh nonexistant and Ph super low?

So a bag of crushed coral should help with the Kh and in turn bring up the Ph? And would it continually need to be changed out or would it stay and have the same effect over time?

Kh nonexistant and Ph super low?

My source is municipal. Ive got some driftwood in there but I've had it established in other tanks so Im not sure if it'd still absorb ph? I dont use any other chemicals in my tanks aside from dechlorinator. Also, Ill start the water test with water out like you suggested.

Kh nonexistant and Ph super low?

So Ive got three tanks going, a 3 gal, 10 gal, and 30 gal. ALL of them seem to have nonexistant Kh and Ph below 6, even with consistent water changes. Whats even more confusing is that my taps Ph is around 8.2 with a normal Kh. First I considered it to be my substrate, but Ive got different...
