Your tap water reads 4.0 ammonia? That's extremely high! I'm not entirely sure but maybe your city's water supplier is flushing out their system?

My mistake, Caliban is right. Excel adds carbon in another form. What I said applies to CO2, not the form that excel uses.

It's most likely LED, which would be fairly good for medium light I'd imagine, if not high light. I considered this myself too, but I didn't have a canopy or method to put them up in a way that I figured would look good. Best of luck to you!

I wouldnt dose flourish excel in a tank without plants. At that point your making the dissolved co2 in the water much higher than normal with no plants to use it, so only your surface gas exchange would balance it out. Sure, if you put enough in itd probably get rid of the algae but all the fish...

Theres no harm in overfiltration, the only thing is that at some point there is a case of diminishing returns where your tank wont produce enough waste to fully sustain the entire filter worth of bacteria, but it gives you headroom to expand. Good luck with your tank, I hope your pleco is fine!

The Watts per gallon rule is quite obsolete, specially with LEDs. What matters is par ratings at your tank's depths. As for planting them, each plant is different. I'm not an expert on this, but I'd say your plants should be fine in terms of light.

Careful when cleaning your filter, if it's the pad you're cleaning. If you do need to clean it because it's obstructing flow, be sure to do it in old tank water in order not to kill the beneficial bacteria on it. Otherwise, your tank will not process ammonia too well which will result in fish deaths

So a bag of crushed coral should help with the Kh and in turn bring up the Ph? And would it continually need to be changed out or would it stay and have the same effect over time?

My source is municipal. Ive got some driftwood in there but I've had it established in other tanks so Im not sure if it'd still absorb ph? I dont use any other chemicals in my tanks aside from dechlorinator. Also, Ill start the water test with water out like you suggested.
