If you need to restore the bacteria colonies in the filter, then get hold of some BioSpira or Tetra SafeStart, both of these contain the bacteria needed for filtration and ammonia conversion, this will help speed up the process of cycling and will keep the fish happy... :)

I've not seen any effects of the flash on the fish here, but the visual effects (reflections, over exposure, red eyes (eeebil fishies!!!), cloudyness etc) mean it's pointless to use the flash, just use ambient light from around the tank aswell as the tank lights... :)

Well, I haven't seen anything for a while now, so I have begun the process of returning the tank to normal, today I sterilised the substrate, fake plants and whatnot, and the driftwood is soaking (placed in near-boiling water) and will need a scrubbing as some fungus-like stuff seemed to form on...

You should have seen the one that was in the tank he used to be in at the pet shop, his tail fin was about 1 & 1/4 inches long!!! Amazing!!! :D It's funny, I was reading back through my thread on my tank, and I said that Bettas were too frilly for me, but they have grown on me since I saw them...

Thanks, he's a great fish, very friendly, and just like the first one, he knows when it's feeding time!!! :D And yes, I do have water spots, the lid is terrible for dribbling condensation over the sides, it's a cheapo vacuum-formed one, not exactly the best, and it's full of holes I have made...

Stoopid SD card and stoopid batteries not lasting more than 5 minutes, finally got some pictures, but some were lost due to a problem with said SD card...:mad: It took a while to get some pictures of the little fella, mainly cos he moved before the camera could focus on him, or he zipped off...

Yeah, I have toned the outlet down using a piece of Fluval3 filter sponge, so it's not as flowy in there now and he's happy exploring his new home... :) And there's a calm spot in the opposite corner of the filter, so that's where he's been hanging out mostly when not exploring... :) He's been...

Well, originally, the spots on Mop & Whitey were white and raised as per Ich, but I haven't seen those for some time now, and the spots on her tail are about the same size as an Ich spot, but not raised or furry. They don't match the description of the GHV virus, nor are they bigger than 2mm...

I'm getting quite bored seeing the tank so drab and the humming of the air pump is really annoying, especially as it has developed a strange sound which sounds oddly like young chicks in a birds nest... :confused: But anyway, Whitey still has a slightly spotty tail, and I'm wondering if that's...

Thanks, he was a very nice fish, not very sociable, but still a nice fish... :( And SFF = Siamese Fighter Fish... :) Betta just seems too generic for the species... :)

I went away last weekend entrusting my SFF to my mother's care, and I came back to find my little blue boy had passed away, and the tank looked awful... :( I think the cause was some of the plants I got didn't like the warm conditions and rotted away, causing an ammonia spike which killed poor...

Yes, they do suffer, and a second one has passed away, I found it just behind the bubble wall whilst I was cleaning one of the filters, the one left seems to be ok, but the one I found dead also seemed to be ok, but later died... :( I actually need to go back to the tank as the filter with...

One of the Hillstream loaches has passed away, it must have gone sometime during the night as when I removed him he really smelled bad and his eyes were white, so he had been gone a fair while... :( I'll be keeping an eye on the other two (although they are tough to spot most of the time!!!)...
