I read that this is bad for a DSB cus they eat the sand critters (fauna) i think. my question is are they beneficial for anything or just something to look at? I noticed all my "sand" critters are gone and if the star isnt beneficial I should get rid of it right?

thanks for your replies...the free foating stuff is white and looks like fibers or white hair. its also on my rocks and glass. im thinking this is hair algae just bleached by the sand. could this be possible?

update...just checked my readings and the ammonia levels rose from 0 to .25 in less than a week. im thinking its cus of this. nitrites are 0 and nitrates are 10 (ppm) ph is 8.1,calcium is 400 ppm (maintained at 400 from top off tap water ,cant afford the alternitives) alk reading says "normal"...

from what the guy at the LFS said...its undrinkable. the water is too pure for humans and has to have a special add on to put some minerals BACK into the water.
