    diffusers?

So I think I might make the switch from DIY to pressure CO2 soon, but I'm unsure what diffuser to get, what does everyone else use? One thing that I am concerned about is noise from a water pump, are they loud? I also have a HOB filter, so I can't hook into a canister filter =(

    GBR fin rot?

Hi, I have a GBR that seems to have developed a whisp of fin around the anal fin. Is this fin rot? It's quite long. What can cause this? I know the PH of my tank is a bit high for GBRs could that be the problem? Should I medicate? If so with what? Thanks!

    tilt?

ok ok I hope it's clear now it's only unlevel horizontally  thanks for the tips, I might leave it for a day or two and see if it settles into the carpet and levels itself out. If not I'll take some action! I do suspect that the tank is a little off manufacturing wise, but I'm taking...

    tilt?

2-3mm over the length of the tank (29G so 30"). So the water on the right side of the tank sits about 2-3mm lower then the left side. Yes sorry I meant width wise it's level. Only horizontal is off D= I almost wonder if I should leave it and see how it plays out, or maybe try adding some...

    tilt?

So I'm looking for some opinions here 8O I just setup my 29G tank and it seems to be slightly unlevel horizontally. Length wise it's level but horizontally it seems to be about 2-3mm off. I have tried measuring the defflection of the legs of the stand and they seem fine, but I don't know...

Name this algae, and what can I do... LOL

ya you can even do like 4 hours 130 then 2 hours dark and 4hours 130 again. Just try and break up the photo cycle in the middle to try and kill the algea

    starting planted tank...

thanks for the help guys! I got the stuff today, I actually went overkill on the lights and got 130W of CF. They also had a simple CO2 system (not red sea it is a nutrafin) that was pretty cheap so I jumped for it. It's basically like a homemade kit except it has a diffuser and hopefully...

    starting planted tank...

ok so I've been reading and such, but if possible I'd just like to confirm my thinkings: 29gal tank, thinking about 110W of CF Now this gives me a high amount of light. the CF strip has 2 bulbs in it, if I just ran one (for 1.8WPG) would the tank be ok without CO2? I'm a little worried...

    Pleco question

common plecos are pretty niffty.. or go exotic =) i *think* they all pretty much do the same thing... eat algea and grow huge :O

    hairy situation

Hi thanks a lot in advance for any advice : ) i have 2 german blue rams and 1 otto in my tank.. maybe a 2-3 weeks ago one of the rams started to develop a white puff spot on his face. i didn't know what it was, and it didn't really fit any discription... so i gave it a best guess and treated...

New tank water is behaving weird: keeps getting acidic

what is the PH of the water out of the tap? that's what you have to look at to determine what u can do about your changing PH D: if the PH out of hte tap is low, and the KH is low as well.. you can use a PH adjuster.. these products are full of buffers, which will help you raise your PH, and...

Ok, what's the skinny on RO/DI water

or just mix RO with your tap water? that's what i do. i end up doing about a 50/50 mix to get PH/KH/GH all right.

Something is still devouring my KH levels

thouse kits that "set the ph" are full of buffers. you might one of thouse. they have a veriety of kits to "set" the PH. just pick one that you like and give it a shot. that's what i would try next anyway =/ good luck!

    am i being humane/realistic?

hmm alright : ) i've heard of some people doing some nice setups with beta's in a 10g with some dividers. the 10g is what i have to work with =\ it's got filter/heater/gravel/everything though : )

    More Water Woes

i don't know much about SW (just reading here, i have a FW currently) but R/O water is readily available at most super markets where i live (MI). you can bring in the big 2.5G jugs, and fill for like $.50 a gallon. i'm not sure how much RO units go for, but that might be cheaper, atleast in the...

chemistry: pH up, down, sideways..does this stuff work?

ya 7.6 is nothing to sweat : ) chems are a bad way of moving PH anyway. to lower it start doing a few small water changes with distilled water. that'll help bring it down naturally : ) but i wouldn't sweat 7.6

    am i being humane/realistic?

i currently am home for the summer, and have a pretty good 10g tank going at home. i am going back to college in a month or so, and i really would like to have fish in my dorm. i was thinking about getting a 29g for the house, and just put a few fish/plants in there. then take the 10G up to...

    Air pump question?

you only need them when you don't have enough aireation. they cause surface agitation, which helps the exchange of O2 to happen.

Oto - Is this true ?

i got 3 of them yesterday, all 3 are doing fine today : ) and they have made a big dent in my algae already =D

    Algae Removal Solution.

i think they should be avoided unless absolutly nessesary. try using some algae eating fish, and changing your lighting habits before using chem's. there's a lot of good algae removing info on this site/forum that doesn't require the use of thems : )

    Lighting question

that'll give you 1.9 WPG. that's a decent amount. if you are serious about adding a lot of plants you might wanna up the wattage a bit however, and try to get the WPG up a bit. sounds like a killer setup :D
