    emerald crab-vs bubble coral

Steve-Have some hermit crabs and one cleaner shrimp . For fish;clowns, damsel, chromis, blenny and a tang but I still feel the crab is the culprit. My circumstantial evidence is the fact that the hammer coral is doing fine. I guess Ineed to get a new test kit because my current kit tests for...

    emerald crab-vs bubble coral

Last night when I got home from work I noticed there was no bubbles on my bubble coral. It is only a small little frag that I bought for 7 bucks and has been doing well for the past 4 days since it has been in the tank. It had about a cluster of 7 bubble and tentacles even come out from it . I...

Sun Coral/Polyps - any experience with these animals?

So I should not put this in my just recently cycled tank?? Just kidding thanks for the advice. For my 2 month old tank we have a hammer coral and zooanthid that are both doing great for the past week now. But I will likely wait on this one.

They are beautiful. Do you know the name and type? I too would be interested in adding something like this to our tank.

    Heater for a newbie

Thanks all for your concern I did go with the Ebo-Jager at 150 for my 55 gal (10 gal sump). FYI San Jose is in the "Bay Area" as they call it ,which means San Francisco Bay. Temps up here actually get quite a bit colder than Southern Cal due primarily to the cooling effects of the bay. We...

    Heater for a newbie

With winter upon us I think I need to break down and get a heater for my 55 gal corner tank. What brand is both reliable and affordable? I think all I need is a 90 watt heater.

    Sand and snails?

Snails are pretty hardy I doubt that your tank had anything to do with it's demise. It may have been sick straight from the LFS. YOu could rotate the power head direction from time to time if sand shifting is a concern of yours

    Critters

I belive the bulbs may be Bubble Algae which can spread quickly. Do not pierce them as this will just accelerate their propogation. Are your cycling the tanks with the light on?

    refuggium: LR or sand

Currently I have one chunk of LR in my refuggium in the hopes that the macro alge will root in the LR. Am I better off with replacing the rock with sand. Also what critters would you recommend to add to the refuggium? Right now I have a damsel that in there. He is being punished for now and...

    new coral growth?

I hope so. How big is that? How many do you have? Are they clustered together? What I am seeing is quite small and in several patches. Kind of suprises me because I have moderate lighting (130w for 55 gal )

    new coral growth?

Finally something is growing out of my live rock. Aside from the hundreds of little brown worms (peanut?) and minature (1 cm)retracting flower looking things I have not seen anything too exciting growing out of the live rock . This morning I noticed some growth coming from a "dead" coral...

    Damsel

May I suggest a small stick of dynamite. Perhaps a little bit much. Okay so my wife and I now hate these beautiful blue damsels. Should have listened to all the warnings. Now the bully damsels is confined and punished in the dreaded refugium. Let that be a lesson. As my wife put it.. " we will...

    New True Percula not eating

My lonely clown would not eat the flake but loves the brine shrimp. We introduced to the tank a new clown that eats the flakes and know the pick clown eats flakes and is far happier and livlier since we added a friend for him.

Want to add another percula to tank!!! Please Help

Our clown was definatley lonely. Perhaps it was his/her boistrous damsel tank mates. When we added antother clown to the tank what a difference. The original clown really came to life and even has the confidence now to exlore around the tank. It is recommended that you get the second on either...

    AquaScaping Looks Good??? ****UPDATED****

James, to me it is all personal preference but I prefer to go for the natural look and to me your set up looks more like a human inspired masterpiece. On the up side looks like the fish have plenty of cool obstacles. If you are happy with it by all means keep it the way it is. :)

Where are all my fish going?

I have 4 emeralds in my 55 g along with 2 clowns, three damsels, one goby , cleaner shrimp , hermits and 6 snails. The emeralds are very busily picking food off of the rocks and have never seen them attack any creature. They are actually my favorite critter next to the goby. As said before the...
