All tanks have algae, you can never get rid of it completely. All you can do is reduce the growth rate or change which type is growing. Most people gear thier tanks to promote Coraline growth, becuase it is pretty.

It will become live doing this , but it will take forever before you can enjoy your 75 gallon main. I'd personally rather just save up and buy nice live rock piece by piece .

Sounds like it could be a great set-up. Just make sure: You want the hoses to attach to some sort of hang-on the back box on the aquarium, otherwise in a power outtage the water could siphon back out of your tank into the sump and flood the floor.
