Things to do in Houston Tx

Maybe Hobby Airport? There is an Aquarium in downtown Houston. I haven't been but hear it's nice. Lots of resturants and spots downtown that would be fun. They are really working hard on the downtown area, so there is a lot of new stuff.

    sexing Angels.

When they become sexually mature they will start going in and out of "heat" for lack of a better term. When they are in the breeding mode you will notice a small tube protruding from the fish near the anus. The male will have a short thin pointy tube, the female will have a thick, longer blunt...

Added 3 new Gourami's Help please...

You might clean the tank and move the plants and rocks around a bit. That way the Angels will feel that they are in new territory and quit being so aggressive.

    Question about Emperor 400

With the tank being that new, you aren't really going to lose much by switching filters at this point. Never used Bio-Spira, so I don't know exactly how that figures into the mix. Can you add more with the new filter? I would use water changes to bring the ammonia down rather than the crystals.

    Darn background!

Be careful using water to affix the background. I did, and we have really hard water. When I took the background off, the back of my tank was covered with calcium deposits that I cannot remove. So I bought tinted plexiglass and cut it to fit inside the tank. It makes a great looking...

    Gourami Fans Speak up!

I am with Allivymar, I love Angelfish and gouramis. I have a pair of Pearl Gouramis mixed with 3 angelfish. They are so tranquil (the gouramis) I love to sit and watch them hover. I am thinking I have a male and female. How do you tell with Pearl gouramis? One has the fringey things on his...

Better method than the "1 inch per gallon" rule?

I have read similar things about the number of fish being dependent upon the surface area of the water. However, I think that is an outdated method. A tall selnder tank will follow the inch per gallon rule without problem in regards to O2 in the water, provided you have an air pump and a...

    Wigglers!

Well, my angelfish laid eggs on the intake tube of my filter, so I let them watch the eggs for two days... I was planning on taking them out when they became wigglers, but mom started getting hungry and ate 80% of the eggs, just as the tails emerged... I yanked the tube when I got home and put...

    LFS's in the Houston Area

Actually, I went to Petsmart on I-10W - near the beltway, and their fish were in pretty good shape. The manager lowered the price on Angelfish by $1.00 each in order to match Petco's prices. All the fish were healthy and still are. I don't know if they know a lot about fish, but the tanks...

    Aquarium Size vs. Fish Growth

I think the biggest problem with overstocking is the buildup of pollutants in the tank. More fish = more detritus = high nitrite/nitrate levels = unhealthy/dead fish. In addition, if you overstock a tank you can cause normally peaceful fish to become aggresive towards their tank mates. I hate...

My fake plants are turning brown?!?!

I hide my heater behind tall plants, it blends in pretty well. My plastic plants get brown in the in the nooks and crannies. I don't mind it at all, in fact I think it makes the plants look a little more lifelike. The leaves are green with a tiny tinge of brown at the base of the shaft and...

    old angelfish new angelfish

I had a large angel then introduced 5 small angels. I never had a problem, but I know that they can be antagonistic. To prevent problems, I rearranged the tank and took the big angel out, then put the the small angels in and let them get settled. Then I put the big angel back in and things...

    nasty angels

I agree with Allivymar & Zic, they might be getting ready to mate. They need lots of room especially when they start breeding!
