    Aquarium plumbing businesses

Does anyone know of aquarium businesses that help with installation and re-plumbing in the Los Angeles area? Seems everyone just does maintenance.

    Inch Per Gallon

So everyone - body mass - so does that mean if I have skinny long fish I can keep a lot more fish? I seem to get a lot of crap from all sorts of people on this forum and others when I mention what I have in my tank - yet my fish are healthy. I'm always amazed when people are extremely rude...

    Lighting - fish only

Hi guys and thanks for your opinions. I have metal halide lighting for corals - tank was set up wrong. I have an 7 foot long by 3.5 foot high and 4 feet wide tank. What is the least expensive lighting to run for that system, that you know of. I'm trying to offset my large electricity bill...

    Fire eel

Good luck with all this pious advice. You guys should never go to any fish store and definitely stay away from Monsterfishkeepers.com where they advertise putting large predator fish in tanks that cannot hold them as perfectly as you all would. Maybe we should make sure prisoners get homes not...

    Fire eel

You're right. I should just get rid of him and hope that someone else will not take care of the water perimeters or allow him to be picked on by another fish or two or maybe allow it to escape, or, ya know, since I have had him since 2002, I could just throw him away. If there is one thing I...

    Fire eel

He is super unhappy now cuz he is in only 1/3rd of the 125 gallon tank. Poor thing, but I also need to take care of the other new residents and new lovely plants. Before I got all the other goodies, it was such a horribly boring tank with just him and a pleco and huge fake wood. Now it is a...

    Fire eel

Mine is a monster at almost 30 inches and at least a couple of inches around its thickest area. He is in my newly planted tank. He was a lone for quite some time and had the tank all to himself and now he is sharing it with many tiny fish. I was worried about him eating them as he is a...

    Fire eel

I can't remember if I asked this question before, but if anyone has a fire eel, how long have you had it and do you know how long they can last? I have checked numerous sources and I have not succeeded in finding the answer. I have had mine since 2002 and it is a giant. Thanks.

    Water changes and filters

Excellent answers and very thorough. One more thing, if you don't mind. I have read a lot on nitrates and it seems that the internet and books say it's very dangerous to have high levels, yet, the lfs - sellers, yes - say to me that I really shouldn't worry too much about it. Can anyone...

    Water changes and filters

Hi. I have a question and want opinions/answers PLEASE. I've read some really good threads here about PWC opinions. I have always been told to do 20 -25% PWC per month by all my LFS's and books and here I am reading a lot of people stating that you should do up to 50% per week or more even...

Looking for Monster Fish For Free in LA area-fresh water

Hi - I always hear of people that have fish that they no longer can keep due to the size of the fish. I have a very large pond in the Los Angeles area that I am turning into a tropical fish pond. I have already started with a pleco. So, I am looking for people who want to get rid of their red...

Has the price of bristlenose plecos gone up?

Thanks, but this may sound stupid to all you guys - do not reply, thanks, but if I want a fish and I think it's worth $35 for a bristle nose then there you go. I think that all the effort that goes into taking care of fish, maintenance, food, stress that fish should be worth more than what is...

5ft Column Fish Tank (The Classic Fool)

I don't think your electric costs will be as much as you think - do you live in Europe? Then maybe, I don't know. 10% weekly partial change is great, but if not, then do the standard 25% monthly. Only always follow this - the less fish, the less maintenance. I always say, take what you want...

    Will I lose my cycle?

Let me know how it goes. I had a gorgeous beta years ago and put it into my 125 and it was too big for him and he practically blew up. I never believed that a larger tank was bad for betas until I put mine in. It was very hard on him to handle and died after a few months in his new larger home.

    Feeding question for 125

Hi. Wanted to know about how you guys feed your 125 generally. I have 6 fluvals and the amount of water that gets sucked in and pushed out makes my blood/black worms fly all over the place, even when I use a worm feeder cone and into the filters. I also have a hang on penguin on the other side...

5ft Column Fish Tank (The Classic Fool)

Beglely and Asudavew Ya, I should take pictures, but my pictures always come out horrible!!!! It takes up my whole 1/2 wall so you can see it from one side to the other. It's way to high - dummy on my part. But the plumbing is excellent. I am working on making the wood finish look better -...

5ft Column Fish Tank (The Classic Fool)

Hey - I have always wanted one of these even though I know better. It's a great piece of furniture. Just buy a really long and good hose cleaner. You will really have to watch the water perimeters. Do weekly testing - it doesn't take that long. Ask your local fish shop if Angel fish could...

    Need help

:DHey, good luck - so much trial and error, but you can really cut down on the error by purchasing some really good books. I'd tell you which I bought but on another forum I was on the moderator made fun of the book I was suggesting and seemed really jealous or something of the author -...

    Water conditioner/testers/R.O.....

Yes - I am a fish addict to the max. I have a huge problem though, my nitrates are always outrageous, no matter what I do. And I hear most people saying, "I have 0 nitrates..." I have never had zero nitrates in my life! So, I thought I'd ask what people are using in their tanks. I use r/o for...

    Water conditioner/testers/R.O.....

    getting started

You need to buy a pond book and study from start to finish. You will need everything that you would for a FW tank. Just look at a pond as a large FW tank, only make sure there is an overflow pipe for when it rains so that the water flows out the pipe and not over the pond. Someone I knew did...

    Outdoor pond question

Can't you keep a bubbler going - a pump going. If you keep a pump with bubbler and make it a deep pond you should be fine. Deeper is better anyway so that racoons can't get into it. I live in LA and have a deep pond (very large) with a fish house also. Go ahead and do it but dig deep and make...
