As long as you keep them clean, they work fine for anything Aquarium related. You have to be careful how you clean them out. I have a steam cleaner that I use on occasion to keep them clean.

I'm with yhbae. I had my bout with Ick at the start of my getting into this hobby, and tried the Medication, and destroyed my bio filter. I finally raised my temp to 87, and after 2 weeks my tank and fish are fine and clear. I lost one fish. Hang in there :)
