    Need help!

My canister filter just stopped working, and I need to get something quick. What would be a good filter for a 75g freshwater tank, with no plants and just community fish? Preferably something quiet, but I'm not really in the position to be selective right now. TIA!

    Temp question for a nano

I have an oceanic 14g nano with 48w lighting. I plan on getting an o.clown fish, clown goby, firefish, a couple snails, a cleaner shrimp, a couple red scarlet crabs, and some beginner corals (shrooms, leathers, zoas). My only problem so far is the temp. From my understanding snails and inverts...

Live aquaria's nano soft coral pack

The LFS around here charges $60+ just for frags. I have a 14g oceanic nano with no corals so far, and the live aquaria's nano pack seems too good to be true. For $120+shipping I can get 8 nano corals, here is the link for those interested...

Carbon placement in 14g oceanic nano.

Is it safe for the carbon and mesh bag to touch the heater? The problem I have is the oceanic has 3 chambers. The 3rd chamber is the return pump and actually doesn't hold much water. The second chamber is wet/dry, which is filled with live rock rubble and a drip plate. The first chamber is the...

    Stocking a 14g nano

Just picked up an oceanic 14g nano and put in ~12 lbs of liverock and ~5 lbs of live rock rubble. After it is cycled I'm going to pick up what the LFS calls a nano clownfish, which is basically a very tiny Ocellaris Clownfish (I realize they will get bigger). I also plan on keeping some easy...

    Water level and livrock/corals

I'm setting up a 12g JBJ nano, and the liverock goes nearly to the top. So if I do a 25% or more waterchange, some of the rock is above the waterlevel for about 10 minutes. Is it ok for liverock to be temporarily exposed? What about corals?

    Good place for liverock?

Liverocks.com seems to be not selling rock right now. Any other good places for some nice liverock? I'm trying to get some for my 12g nano, and the rock at all the LFSs around here is dead.

    DIY Canopy complete

First off I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me in Aquarium Advice. If it wasn't for you guys I would have never done this and I'd probably be running a 12 gallon stuffed with a pufferfish, lionfish, tang, and a trigger. Next up is the sump, which is something I never would have done as...

    Need camera advice and identification

Hello, anyone have any tips on how to take good pictures of whats in my tank with my digital camera? Photos seem blurry. Also, anyone know what this thing in the center is? It seems to be spreading over the tank. Good or bad?

    Sump for Idiots

I have to convert my FW tank to a sump (the heater blows a fuse everytime it turns on, due to my new MH lighting, and my brother is starting up a FW tank, so he can take the fish). Anyways so all I have is a 55 gallon tank and I guess I have to buy an overflow since my tank is not predrilled...

    Wires everywhere

I'm trying to arrange the wires for my lighting on the bottom of the lid of of my canopy so that they don't just fall everywhere, but nothing seems to work. I have these U shaped wire holders but the nails don't seem to stay put and electrical tape wont hold past a day. What do you all use to...

    Need Help Wiring Ballast

I have an advance F-can ballast for a 175w metal halide bulb. I bought a powercord for it at wallmart, but all it says is that the ribbed wire is the neutral wire. The ballast has 4 wires comming out of it. A red and white wire that go to the lamp, and a 277v yellow wire and a 120v black...

    Quick Paint Dry Time Question

Just painted my DIY canopy and I was wondering how long should I let it dry for before I put it on my tank? I think it is an oil based paint.

    Quick MH ballast question

Is it ok to place these things directly on the wood stand floor? Or do I need to do something special for heat dissipation? TIA

    Emergency!

Ack! Help! I tested the levels of my QT that has been running for a couple of months and they were fine, so I bought a Heniochus butterflyfish. So an hour later after putting the fish in, I test ammonia and nitrite and nitrites are through the roof (1.6 mg/l), which doesn't make much sense to...

    Looking to Purchase MH lighting

Doesn't look like retro-fitting is going to save me any money compared to a hood but that's ok. Kit is for a 110g w/ a center divider, and I have a 60" CSL 4x65 PC unit that somehow I'm going to incorporate into this, maybe try to retro-fit it or something. I'm looking to keep at least a couple...

    New Liverock Arrived: Fully Loaded

I now got a total of #40 gulf, #40 keys, and #60 base in my 110. Just got #40 of gulf rock from liverocks.com and it's really good rock, with tons of life. I think I counted a least 5 mini-stars and a ton of other I-don't-know-what-it-is-but-it-looks-cool. I did find some aiptasia, but that's...

    MH necessary?

I was considering upgrading my lighting system to MH but was quite shocked at the pricing. Retro-fit isn't really an option if I can help it since I don't have a hood, and will likely electrocute myself in the process. Therefore the minimum I can find for a decent 60" MH canopy is $550, a little...

    Another Fishlist, version 2

I finally figured out what I really want is an aggressive psuedo-reef. I really don't have strong enough lights for most corals and I will likely just get some shrooms and low-light LPSs. (lighting is 65x4 w 10k & actinic for a 110g). This is more of a "in what order should I place these fish"...

    Cleanupcrew is lazy

My cleanup crew is lazy. They basically barely even clean the glass (which I could do myself) and don't even touch the sand. I havn't even seen my two starfish move from out of the rocks (they are alive, as I noticed while aquascaping to upgrade my skimmer), and I havn't even seen my sea...

    Finally Going Reef

Finally decided that I'm going to get a few corals, however, I don't have the highest intensity lighting. The wattage comes out to about 2.5 w/g, however, to me at least it seems very bright in my tank, and the coralline I do have is flourishing. tank: 100-110 gallon lights: 4x65 PCs 10k &...

    Feeding Frequency

Hello, I just purchased a couple of maroon gold-stripped clownfish for the deal was too good to pass up on (a captive-bred pair for $16). I know I've been having water problems, but everything has stabalized since I switched salt brands. The LFS recommended feeding them a zooplankton product...

    Tank of Doom!

Well, it's not really the tank of doom, but it seems to be on a downward spiral. This is the master thread for all my current and future tank problems. Sorry for so many questions lately, but I'm finally getting my saltwater tank together, and of course everything is going wrong. Rather than...
