Ideas for a jar with spigot?

The jar: I found a jar approx 12 inches high and 8 inches in diameter in a second hand store. I'm guessing it's maybe 3 (or five?) gallons, I haven't tried measuring yet, I'm testing for leaks and will clean it of soap residue (I've already done this successfully for a smaller jar, so we'll see...

Ever since my last order of plants I've been seeing weird things in my tank. I haven't seen anything like it outside my aquarium either.

Need id: silvery tick like creature?

I noticed something that looked like an air bubble that was a bit larger than the rest and was moving erratically under the breeder trap I have in my tank. It was trying to get out from underneath and eventually escaped. On closer look it appeared to be kinda like a tiny silvery tick or perhaps...

what is this, worm / leech?

It's pink and narrow, and it's gliding along the glass. Approx 1 inch long. The fish are uninterested. What the heck is this thing? I'm not sure whether I can work up the courage to smoosh it and throw it in the trash... probably not a good idea to flush it... I put a pic of it in my gallery.

API test kits are not accurate when using PRIME

I'm a bit tired right now and might not be processing this well. So basically according to Seachem: The API salicylate-based ammonia kit gives you a reading for ammonia whether it's free or "bound" by a dechlorniator. And Amquel+ is completely incompatible with the API ammonia test kit for...

ghost shrimp frantically swimming against glass

Crap she mellowed out after I put her back in the tank, but now has turned a little opaque. I've added Seachem Flourish to the tank, I'm wondering if that's what's affecting them.

ghost shrimp frantically swimming against glass

I have a female ghost shrimp w/eggs which was frantically swimming against the sides of the tank like she wants to get out. I've just done a water change and added iodine (maybe she's freaking out cuz it may trigger her to molt)? I took her out and put her in a separate container (watered it...

screw in compact fluorescent color casts?

I currently have a 10g glass tank. I ordered the Aqueon Economy Full Hood and have decided to use screw in compact fluorescents to light my tank. I have driftwood in the tank that's turning the water brownish, which doesn't bother me, except that I changed lighting and now it looks really...

VERY Bad Hair Algae Problem. Any tips?

Useful post FF. I just had some moss in a 2.5 that had bad hair algae. I think I also used a pen and my fingers to pick the worst of it off. It clings pretty good I felt like I was going to tear all the moss out, a few strings of moss came out but wasn't as bad as I expected. I just moved it...

50 gal acrylic or 55 gal glass?

Well I tore down my ten and 12 g tanks last year to move, and so I'm getting ready to get started again! This time I'm debating between a seaclear 50g and a normal 55g glass tank. The pros of the acrylic are that it's lighter, clearer, and has a smaller footprint. The cons are that it seems...

    acrylic tank with tiny cracks

I apologize if this has been asked previously, I did search the forums first before posting, but did not find answers. I answered an ad in craigslist for a 60g acrylic seaclear tank. When I looked the tank over, I noticed lots of tiny cracks along the edges of the tank, and a two inch patch...

    Who is your favorite band/singer?

My current fave band is System of a Down. Old faves: Korn, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Suicidal Tendencies, Yaz, Cat Stevens. I still listen to the first three, the rest make me groan or laugh now. Don't have a fave singer right now.
