    RED SLIME on rocks

How do I get rid of the red slime. It seams to carpet over all my rocks. I have cleaned off the "gunk" but it grows back at double the rate. I have limited the lighting but this red carpet grows and grows and grows. What do I do? FYI - the algae magic doesn't seem to work either. lots of...

    Mass death

Hello Everyone, I recently brought home a new fish from the LFS. As you would expect, everything seemed fine. All fish took to the new comer and no real territorial problems or interaction. ALL WATER LEVELS perfect. Within one week I lost 90% of my stock. No spots on any fish. I have...

    Found a Worm?

Now that you mention missing snails and crabs. I thought that my hermit crabs ate my turbo snails. And now I have two crabs from three and no snails at all. I purchased a large snail thinking that it's mass would not entice the crabs, but now a large worm might answer some missing tank...

    Found a Worm?

I wish, this little worm sunk back into the sand with record speed. I wouldn't even begin to know how to lure it back out.

    Found a Worm?

I turned the lights on in the room where we keep our 8 Gal bio Cube. Under a small piece of live rock on top of the white sand I saw what looked to be either the tail and head of one worm or two worm looking worms. They or it is brown/maroon in color. Kinda like a worm with open head lots of...

8 Gallon Biocube - cloudy after water change 24 hrs later

used tap water with purifier and 24 hrs min. I usually have the water mixing from the week before as I mixed to much water. Snail looks deeply tucked into the shell. Smells like bad sea food, very fishy. I placed the snail high on the rocks. If it is in same place tonight, I will have my answer

8 Gallon Biocube - cloudy after water change 24 hrs later

Hey All, I did my weekly water change and my used to be crystal clear water is now cloudy, white and filmy, looking. My levels are perfect, ammonia in 0 (zero) too. Can anyone give a perspective? Also, one of my very large snails has turned on to its side. Not sure if it is dead. I am...

hermit crabs vs. snails for reef?

I started with 3 Hermits and 3 turbo snails. I have 3 hermits. Clearly there wasn't enough turbo for the snails to make off. I now have 3 hermits and one rather large snail which will crawl/creep over the hermits crab shells. Besides, crabs don't clean your glass from algae like snails do.

Cost of coral vs maintaining coral

Hey Everyone, I was at the LFS yesterday. Looking to add some coral to my tank. I was told that frogspawn might die if a clown takes a liking to it. I was also told that I would be looking at spending over $150.00 in maintaining my $20.00 coral. Is this a standard expectation?

Corals for an 8 Gal Biocube

Nitrate levels are almost 0 no higher then 10 as color coding will indicate. I am very diligent about a clean tank. As for the Tang, it will go to a family members tank, 1500 gallons as soon as there is any sign of stress. Right now the little guy literally knocks on the glass to tell me it...

Corals for an 8 Gal Biocube

Hello All, Been quite some time since I have posted. My tank has now made it past two successful water changes, 1/wk. Looks like me hermit crabs made work of my turbo snails. So I have opted for 1 much larger snail. It hasn't found its way to the glass, which algea's up, yet. My magnet...

    Sand sifting Goby

Looks like the yellow head goby. Without the yellow head, all white. smaller then the yellow head. I have read on some other forums this is similar behavior. They are really cool, just not when they are hiding. This little guy went to town on my sand when he got in the tank. Unfortunately...

    Sand sifting Goby

My Gobby has moved all the sand over the hole under the live rock I have provided. It is inside the hole that it has covered. Is this a typical behavior pattern for this fish? It is a white Goby. All white with a black dot on the fin. I would take another look to see other markings...

Don't bring your wife to the LFS

I wouldn't begin to entertain sea horses. Not yet anyways. My wrasse has officially disappeared. I am not sure where this guy set up shop, but we have not seen him swimming about for a few hrs now. We checked the usual hiding spot in the live rock, but no wrasse. The clown and tang are...

Don't bring your wife to the LFS

Thanks for all your helpful hits. I am going see if I can convert an old freshwater tank into a saltwater tank. As for a private Nemo tank for my daughter, that was the plan, until I didn't follow rule number one, say it with me now, "Don't bring your wife to the LFS" How did seahorses do in...
