What I need for a quarantine tank?

Easier yet, assuming you have LR in the main reef for biofiltration, just hang the 400 onto the back of the QT. I did that when using hypo in QT for ich. That 400 will keep the tank spotless and very aerated with great flow for little QT. Keep the old filter pads in it, they're full of...

Anyone out there ever used ich attack?

No, but if you are intent on using a med in the display tank, you may want to look at this http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=55745, some have claimed success with it. I cannot say it's a good product, never used it. I would go with QT and hypo or copper. In a fish only, hypo can be...

    My 2 new O.clowns died...

I agree 100%. I found the same problem when I borrowed a refractometer for Hypo - my tank was around 1.03 when the swingarm read 1.025. I now keep the display tank @ 1.020 on the swingarm to compensate. It's a shame, they are really far from accurate.

    Trigger with fin rot

Sure, just keep a close eye over the next 2-4 weeks, he should show definite improvement. If not, then let us know and we can advise on possible meds. But the nutritional boost and water changes over a few weeks should do it.

    Trigger with fin rot

This is minor bacterial infection, usually caused by excess nutrients in the water. Even though your water tests are probably normal, they cannot detect the DOC. What can help is a bunch of water changes and cleaning. Perform 3-4 large water changes (20% +) with mixed (24hrs) and aerated sw - do...

    New Fish help

Nothing, until you see spots or other abnormalities. Tangs may scratch from time to time, with nothing wrong. If spots do appear, hypo is better for tangs, they are copper sensitive. Keep the water quality and especially PH up (8.1-8.3) and monitor them closely for now...

    Angel with Ich... sad update...

The problem is how do you effectively kill one tiny bad invert, ICH, while not killing the other good - your biofilter, liverock, corals??? I Thats a good sign, he should be fine till you get back and treat. Yes, I would start the QT as I said, it will only make it easier for you when you...

    Angel with Ich... sad update...

Yea but remember cupramine treatment will require lots of water changes as the biofilter is zapped just like Ich. You will be fighting an ammonia battle. Hypo is much easier IMO, as you can use liverock or another biofilter and not have the constant water change / ammonia burden. It is also not...

    Angel with Ich... sad update...

Most of the time I agree dips are useless and stressful. IMO it is possible to offer some relief, although I would only consider if the fish was heavily covered in it AND I was going away for a week. But I agree it is still risky and questionable at best and by no means a cure (FW cannot get the...

    Angel with Ich... sad update...

Hmm, this is a tough call, as quarry said. Last year I went away for the last week of my Hippo Tang being in Hypo. However you have to leave so soon, I would not want someone else having the responsibility of a cycling QT tank which could put a stressed fish over the edge. Here's what I suggest...

begginin to rub on corners of glass, , signs of ich?

Yes other irritants can cause itching or flasing. Keep an eye out for salt sized spots or other visible abnormalities, and keep a qt tank ready in case it is ich.

    What is a good PH?

Actually the ocean is about 7.8 to 8.4. So your numbers are fine, you do not need to lower it. 8.3-8.4 is what reef aquarists aim for. 8.1 is considered a bit low in some tanks... HTH

    Sick hippo tang?

They are pretty hardy, IMO, once through the QT period. I think their appetite, ease of feeding is a big part. I agree with more water changes as Steve said. What size are the spots and how often is he rubbing? ICH looks like salt or sugar specs.

    Clown not eating

To be safe, remove 1 now and remove the other a week from now. That is definitely enough LR (though more would not hurt), I have around the same ratio in my 45g - I removed the biowheels and slowly but surely the nitrates dropped to <5. It might take a day or so before the clown eats, this is...

Does the LFS location affect the Price of Fish?

Prices vary greatly in the Philadelphia suburbs; from store to store the price may vary by 2-3x! A little store nearby has very good deals. Never saw an ich outbreak there, once in a while some minor bacterial problems. Here are some prices I remember there, most fish are juvenile. Assorted...

i am a new member. This is my saltfish tank.

Those fish would fill up a 200 gallon! Return the 2 tangs and the angel please, they will not last very long in there. This is very reckless and short-sighted.

Help my Zebra Moray aka Eel Diseases w/ pics

StripesTheEel, your other tank is overstocked, as we said before. This tank I cannot see what's in there, but he alone may be overstocking it. Being that he has cloudy eyes, it's probably bacterial - IE water quality related. Yes your measurements are fine, but that doesn't detect all the...

POLL QUESTION: how many power outlets are you using?

    45 gallon reef 2 PH, 1 175w MH, 1 96W PC, 2 fans, 1 hob, 1 heater, 1 skimmer = 9 = about 600 watts peak!

    38 gallon system questions

outside of the LR, just 2 powerheads, 300-400gph each IMO. A skimmer is also good idea - the only really good HOB ones are the BakPak2 and the AquaC remora. You can use a hob filter for carbon filtration here and there (optional). You can save your money and skip the livesand, if you're talking...

    just lost my yellow tang

Yes that PH can, will kill a tang - they are used to 8.1-8.4. If I am not mistaken 7.4 is ~ 100x more acidic than 8.4. Get your water parameters in order and DO research the needs of fish before buying - the yellow tang should be in a 4 ft established tank (with excellent water quality), a 29 is...

Blue Tang Is Itchy.. Hes Scratching

Very nice looking tank there StripesTheEel. It appears to be a 65 or 75 gallon (~250 liters)? The only thing is, they are large (and growing) fish = too much nutrients in a small space. To keep the nutrients down you'll have to be extra vigilent with water changes, a very good quality skimmer is...

Blue Tang Is Itchy.. Hes Scratching

If you haven't seen spots it is probably not ICH or a parasite, but maybe a scratch that has become infected and open. This may be causing the "itch". The exposed area of skin is cause for concern though. 1st thing to do is increase the water quality - water changes will lower bacteria and what...

    2 days, 2 dead tangs :(

Sorry to hear this, really awful :( It sounds like it possibly could have been marine velvet, based on the white coating and the speed which it took over. You need to let the tank go fallow (no fish) for 5-6 weeks so any parasite can die off. Do water changes and all else as normal during...

Help ! My lionfish is acting weird

Agreed...you need to return some fish - those are some large, messy eaters. There is not enough room or biofilter in a 55g for all of them, you'll end up losing some if you don't make a change.
