    aquarium plants app

It ws a $1.36 or something. From what I saw, the use of "starter fish" made me laugh :P.

    aquarium plants app

Picked it up and will spend some time checking it out. But you should also check out this app: Aquarium and fish care tactics. It will render all forums obsolete lol. EDIT: Interesting start, but that's about it since it took about 5 minutes to go thru it lol. Lots of updating needed just for...

    Water

Sounds like a bacterial bloom and a fish in cycle. 3g is way too small and I think I saw where you're upgrading to a 10g soon, which in the long term is also too small. Also, F8P need brackish water to live a healthy life. Here's a link to cycling with fish: I just learned about cycling but I...

First time with live plants, need some advice

I don't know that I'd ever use plants from a pond either. If you can't find them locally, I'd suggest looking online. There's a bunch of sites, just google them, or there's some members here that sell and even give away plants for the cost of shipping.

How long can aquarium safely go without power?

Do a PWC in the morning before work, then one in the evening. Ammonia is gonna build up and become an issue, even if you do cut back on feeding. Not sure if the Aquafilter is an HOB, but pouring some of the fresh water into it should help keep the oxygen level up to save some/most of the...

How long can aquarium safely go without power?

I'd be more worried about filtration than temp (this time of year anyways). I'd suggest 2x daily 50% PWC, with water that is around 79-80 degrees (gas water heater?) and dose the water conditioner for the volume in the tank, not just what you're swapping out.

    Need advice.

Are talking about this one? biOrb Life 30 Aquarium, 8 Gallons, Piano Black:Amazon:Kitchen & Dining It's cool looking, but way too pricey for my budget. I opted for the Fluval EBI (Flora is a good plant version), I really like the setup and the price was right. Fluval EBI Nano Shrimp Habitat...

Cool Tools: Share Your Aquatic/Non-Aquatic finds with AA

Craft or fabric stores has it for $5 in my overpriced county lol. Yep, I see poly-fil at my LFS and they charge extra (and give you less) because it says "Aquarium" on the bag :nono:.

    whats your preferred filtration?

For me it depends on tank size and stock. Anything 40g and up, or messy fish (goldfish/GSP), I'd say a canister and I prefer fluval cans since their media arrangement is very flexable and the ease of cleaning. For 30g and below (low bioload), I prefer HOB and my suggestion would be the Aqua...

    Silicone

The window and door stuff from 3M is what I use. There's a version out that does say 100%, but has mildew reducers in it and I wouldn't use it.

    Marimo moss ball

They'll pick at it IME. My amano, ghost, RCS & CRS go after the ones I have in 3 tanks and they keep them nice and clean. If you have goldfish and their anything like mine, they'll tear it to shreds lol.

    superglue okay?

Yep, should work fine, just let it cure first. Some use it to glue java fern to DW too.

    Stand to small for aquarium!

You can top the stand with a piece of 3/4" plywood to fit the tank, but the entire bottom should be supported IMO. Also, it sounds like the stand is built for a smaller tank, so you may want to look into befing it up. Yep, silicone doesn't patch like that, if it's bad the seam needs to be...

    Starting over with plants

Sounds like you're doing everything right. What are your water parameters and how do you test (liquid or strips)? Starting over with a fishless cycle is feasible I guess, but what fish were you keeping and what was the issue with them?

    PETCO Remodeling!

They put a whole new set of tanks in my Petco and fish are still dying though, so I don't think it was an equipment issue. But this the same store that tried to talk my out of the liquid test kit and favor the test strips :banghead:.

You're lucky, the Italian vals I planted were in shreds/gone not 10 minutes after planting and turning my back :banghead:.

Good luck on the move :thumb: Post pics when you're all setup, we love pics :D.

    Faulty heater?

Do you have a glass thermometer (strip ones are no good IMO/E) in the tank to monitor the temp? Smaller tanks fluctuate more than larger ones, so if it's near a window or something it might have to work harder to keep the temp correct. If you think it isn't right, I'd take it back myself.

    fluval fx5 media

I use the Ehiem Substrat Pro in my Fluval 305 and it works great, with zero issue of it falling thru the baskets. I use it in all my filters (can, HOB & intank) actually. In my 305, I fill the bottom basket with poly-fil to catch gunk the sponges can't and it keeps the ESPro free of junk so the...

    Faulty heater?

Yeah, that's not good. My 200w jager works great and usually off since I have it in a 37g. You do have it submerged below the minimum water mark, right?

    Marimo moss ball

It'll grow, but slowly in low light and better in high light.

    ammonia levels

Water changes (PWC), lots of big (50%) PWC.
